Job Overview The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the hotel’s financial operations, payroll administration, and human resources functions. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with Ontario employment standards and payroll regulations, effective workforce administration, and the efficient management of all accounting processes.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong accounting expertise, payroll experience, and practical HR knowledge, preferably gained in the hospitality, resort, hotel, or tourism industry.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Accounting
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Monitor departmental expenditures and provide recommendations for cost control and operational efficiencies.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records in compliance with Canadian accounting standards.
- Coordinate year-end activities and liaise with external auditors, accountants, and government agencies.
- Ensure internal controls and financial policies are maintained and followed.
Payroll Administration
- Administer bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for salaried, hourly, seasonal, and part-time employees.
- Ensure compliance with CRA payroll regulations and deductions including CPP, EI, and income tax.
- Process employee earnings, overtime, vacation pay, gratuities, bonuses, and benefit deductions.
- Prepare Records of Employment (ROEs), T4 slips, and year-end payroll reconciliations.
- Maintain payroll records and employee earnings information with strict confidentiality.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Human Resources Responsibilities
- Administer employee onboarding and offboarding processes.
- Maintain employee records and personnel files in accordance with applicable privacy legislation.
- Support employee relations initiatives and provide guidance on workplace policies and procedures.
- Assist with performance management processes and employee development programs.
- Ensure compliance with Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) requirements, and other relevant legislation.
- Coordinate employee benefits administration and enrollment.
- Track vacation, leaves of absence, attendance, and other employee-related records.
Hotel Administration
- Provide financial and workforce reporting to senior leadership.
- Assist department managers with budget planning and labour cost management.
- Support operational planning during peak seasonal periods.
- Participate in management meetings and strategic planning initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to financial, payroll, and HR systems and processes.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) is considered a robust asset.
- Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset.
Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
