Position Description

Northmount School is seeking a reliable, organized, and caring Aftercare Program Lead to oversee the school’s aftercare program for students in Grades JK–8. This role is part of Northmount’s broader Extended Day Program,

which includes Before Care, Aftercare, PD Day Camps, and March Break Camp. The Aftercare Program Lead will provide a safe, structured, and positive environment for students at the end of the school day. The program runs from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with the Aftercare Program Lead scheduled from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. to allow time for preparation, snack setup, programming, and student transition. Reporting to the Head of School or designate,

the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting families and ensuring that students are well cared for after regular school programming concludes. This is a part-time position during the school year. There may also be additional opportunities to support Northmount’s PD Day and March Break camp programming.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Supervision and Student Care

- Supervise students in the aftercare program from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
- Create a safe, welcoming, and structured environment for students at the end of the school day.
- Maintain accurate daily attendance, dismissal, and sign-out records.
- Manage student transitions from the school day, co-curricular activities, clubs, and other after-school programming into aftercare.
- Escort students safely between aftercare spaces, activity locations, outdoor areas, and pick-up locations as needed.
- Support students with age-appropriate activities, quiet play,



reading, homework, games, crafts, and outdoor or gym time when available.
- Maintain clear routines and expectations consistent with Northmount’s school culture.
- Work independently and exercise sound judgment with limited direct supervision.

Snack and Program Preparation

- Arrive at 3:30 p.m. to prepare the aftercare space, organize activities, and set up snack for participating students.
- Plan and prepare simple age-appropriate activities that meet the needs of the students enrolled.
- Manage the distribution of snacks for students enrolled in the optional snack program.
- Monitor food allergies and follow school procedures related to student safety.
- Maintain the aftercare spaces, including daily preparation, clean-up, and organization.

Communication and Parent Partnership

- Communicate professionally and warmly with parents and caregivers at pick-up.
- Contact parents or caregivers by phone when needed regarding pick-up, student needs, or program-related matters.
- Share relevant student updates with school leadership as needed.
- Report student behaviour, safety, or supervision concerns promptly.
- Support a positive relationship between the school and families using the aftercare program.

Camp Programming

Northmount intends to offer camp programming on selected PD Days and during one week of March Break. The

Aftercare Program Lead may have the chance to support or lead these programs.

Camp programming would run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with additional paid time for setup and closing as required. Camp support may include:

- Planning and leading age-appropriate activities
- Supervising students throughout the day
- Organizing games, crafts, outdoor play, gym time, and quiet activities
- Supporting a safe, structured, and positive camp setting
- Working with high school counsellor volunteers who are earning community service hours

Availability for PD Day and March Break camp programming is considered an asset.

Student Formation and School Life

- Model professionalism, patience, and care in all interactions with students.
- Support Northmount’s expectations for respect, responsibility, self-control, honesty, and kindness.
- Help students end the day well through calm routines, appropriate supervision,



and positive relationships.
- Contribute to the overall tone and culture of a Catholic school community.

Qualifications

- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with groups of children in a school, camp, childcare, recreation, or youth program setting.
- Strong supervision and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage groups of children with warmth, structure, and consistency.
- Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
- Excellent reliability, punctuality, and judgment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain before the start date.
- Vulnerable Sector Screening required prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Assets

- Practicing Catholic and willing to contribute to the Catholic life of the school.
- Experience in an independent school, camp, or aftercare setting.
- Availability to support PD Day and March Break camp programming.
- Familiarity with boys’ education and the needs of elementary-aged boys.
- Experience planning simple activities, games, crafts, or recreational programming.
- Food handling awareness or experience managing snacks in a school setting.
- Interest in contributing to the broader life of a small school community.
