Reporting to the Animal Care Manager, you will be responsible for supporting animal health and wellness in the shelter.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean cages, condos and kennels, and provide feeding, bathing, grooming, exercise and general care for the animals
- Observe, document and communicate any abnormalities in an animal’s emotional or physical health to the Animal Care Manager, including observations shared by volunteers
- Maintain the general cleanliness and tidiness of the premises and equipment
- Follow all disease and infection control, intake, and health and wellness protocols and best practices
- Ensure animals receive feeding, medication,
vaccines and internal and external parasite control in accordance with established protocols, prescribed treatments and directions from the veterinarian
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Maintain animal enrichment programs and feeding regimes
- Work within the Fear Free Shelter philosophy
- Provide appropriate enrichment, housing and exercise for all animals
- Assist with adoptions by conducting meet and greets with potential families and taking pictures and videos of animals
- Provide transportation to and from veterinary clinics
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
- Valid G Class driver’s licence and a clean driver’s abstract
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed or are enrolled in a post-secondary animal care program, or who have similar hands-on experience
Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Most hours will be on weekends; some holiday work may also be required
- Must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Employment is conditional upon maintaining the confidentiality of LAWS information
- Must be able to work safely and confidently around all species of animals
