$25.00/hour + 4% vacation pay
Detritus Consulting Ltd. is hiring Seasonal Archaeological Field Technicians for the remainder of the 2026 field season.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, physical work, and being part of a small team. No previous archaeological experience is required—we provide on-the-job training.
Our crews work throughout Southern Ontario, primarily in the Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge and Halton areas, with ongoing and occasional projects in Burlington and other locations. Employees should be comfortable travelling to different job sites as required.
What You'll Do
- Conduct archaeological surveys, test pitting and excavation
- Walk long distances while systematically searching for artifacts
- Dig, screen soil and recover archaeological artifacts
- Record field data and complete field documentation
- Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Follow company health and safety procedures
- Work cooperatively with Field Directors and other crew members
What We're Looking For
- An interest in archaeology and outdoor fieldwork
- Previous archaeological, field or academic experience is an asset but not required
- Experience in landscaping, construction, environmental work, farming or other outdoor/manual work is an asset
- Physically able to walk for extended periods and perform repetitive manual tasks
- Reliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Valid driver's licence and access to reliable personal transportation are required
- CSA-approved safety footwear/green patch safety boots are required
- Willingness to travel to different work locations throughout Southern Ontario
Compensation & Benefits
- $25.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay
- Mileage/commute reimbursement may be available depending on distance travelled
- Typical work week of 37.5–44 hours, Monday to Friday
- Overtime opportunities may be available
- Training and mentorship provided
- Opportunity to return for future field seasons
