Overview

At Driftwood Paddle Algonquin, we empower people to connect deeper and adventure often through transformational guided backcountry canoe trips in Algonquin Park.

We’re building a small, trusted team of grounded, capable, kind humans—people who feel equally at home paddling into the backcountry and tending land, maintaining systems, and caring for a place with intention. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about nature and excited to contribute to a heart-centred, values-led business.

Last year, we purchased a beautiful piece of land on Kawawaymog Lake at the edge of Algonquin Park. We’re slowly transforming it into our home base—a place for our guests, guides, canoes, and community to gather.

The Role

We’re looking for an Autumn Basecamp support staff (or couple) to spend September and October with us at our lakeside basecamp.

This is a hands-on, varied role for someone who enjoys working with their hands, being outside, figuring things out, and taking pride in caring for a place.

Your days might involve fixing something around the property in the morning, helping a canoe rental customer in the afternoon, and packing up gear from a guided trip before sitting around the fire at the end of the day.

You’ll help us keep the basecamp running smoothly while continuing the work of turning this special piece of land into something really beautiful.

What You’ll Be Doing

Basecamp Projects & Maintenance A big part of this role will be helping us with ongoing projects around the property.

You might





- Help with small carpentry and building projects
- Repair, maintain, and improve structures around the property
- Build, organize, and install things as needed
- Help with painting, staining, sanding, and general maintenance
- Clean and organize shared spaces
- Help keep tools, materials, and work areas organized
- Notice things that need doing and take initiative to get them done

You don't need to be a skilled carpenter. We’re looking for someone capable, curious, practical, and comfortable learning as they go.

If you look at a broken thing and think, “I bet I can figure that out,” you'll probably fit in well here.

Canoe Rentals & Guest Support

We operate a canoe rental business from the basecamp, so you'll also help welcome and support rental customers.

This may include

- Greeting guests and helping them get organized for their trip
- Loading and unloading canoes
- Helping customers with gear
- Moving and organizing canoes and equipment
- Keeping the rental area clean and organized
- Answering basic guest questions
- Ensuring customers have what they need before heading into the park

We're looking for someone who is naturally warm, helpful, and personable.



You don't need to be a salesperson - just someone who enjoys making people feel welcome.

Guided Trip Support

You'll also support our guided canoe trips from behind the scenes.

This can include

- Helping pack out gear before trips
- Cleaning, drying, and putting away gear after trips
- Helping with food pack-out
- Checking equipment between trips
- Prepping lunch for when groups arrive to Base Camp
- Keeping our gear systems organized and ready to go
- Helping with general trip logistics

You won't necessarily be guiding trips yourself, but you'll play an important role in making them happen.

Caring for the Land

We care deeply about this place and want someone who enjoys contributing to its care.

There may be opportunities to help with:

- Gardening and seasonal land care
- Firewood and firepit maintenance
- Keeping shared spaces tidy
- Trail and shoreline upkeep
- General property organization
- Preparing the property for winter

And because we're still building things out, there will inevitably be random projects we haven't thought of yet...but that's part of the fun:)
