About the Church

First Presbyterian Church, Edmonton, is seeking a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented Bookkeeper/ Part Time Contractor to support the financial administration of our church.

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing routinefinancial transactions, assisting with charitable receipting and reporting, and providing timely financialinformation to the Church Treasurer and church leadership.

The successful candidate will have bookkeeping experience, strong attention to detail, and experience using QuickBooks Online. Experience with bookkeeping for a church, registered charity, or other non-profit organization would be considered a strong asset.

Key Responsibilities The Church Bookkeeper will be responsible for:

- Maintaining the church's accounting records using QuickBooks Online.
- Recording weekly offerings, donations, electronic transfers, and other revenue.
- Maintaining appropriate accounting records for designated and restricted donations.
- Processing invoices, accounts payable, reimbursements, and approved payments.
- Recording accounts receivable and other amounts owing to the church, where applicable.
- Completing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Maintaining the church's general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Preparing monthly financial reports for review by the Church Treasurer.
- Assisting the Treasurer with annual budgets and budget-to-actual reporting.
- Maintaining supporting documentation for all financial transactions.
- Assisting with payroll administration and payroll remittances, where applicable.
- Maintaining records relating to GST/HST and other applicable government filings.




- Maintaining accurate donor records and assisting with the preparation of annual charitable
- donation receipts.
- Assisting the Church Treasurer with financial information required for the church's annual T3010 Registered Charity Information Return and other Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
- Maintaining appropriate accounting for restricted funds, special offerings, ministry programs, capital projects, and designated gifts.
- Assisting with year-end financial reporting and providing records requested by the church's external accountant, reviewer, or auditor.
- Maintaining organized electronic and physical financial records in accordance with church policies and applicable record-retention requirements.
- Supporting appropriate internal financial controls, including separation of bookkeeping, authorization, payment, and reconciliation functions wherever practical.
- Immediately bringing unusual transactions, discrepancies, or financial concerns to the attention of the Church Treasurer.
- Performing other bookkeeping and financial administrative duties as assigned by the ChurchTreasurer.

Qualifications The successful candidate should have:
- Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, email, and electronic document management.




- A good understanding of bank reconciliations, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet monthly and annual reporting deadlines.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality concerning church, donor, employee, and financial information.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the Church Treasurer, Minister, church staff, and volunteers.
- Experience working with a registered charity, church, or non-profit organization in Canada is preferred. Familiarity with CRA charitable receipting requirements and the T3010 annual charity return would be an asset.
