Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled CAD & CNC Machine Programmer to join our Tech Services Team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate CAD drawings from Templated data, programming CNC machinery, and creating production-ready files for the fabrication of stone countertops and related products.
The ideal candidate has strong CAD/CAM experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, measurements, templates, and production specifications. This role plays an important part in ensuring that projects move efficiently from design through fabrication while meeting our quality, accuracy, and production standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Production Manager, Shop Foremen, Tech & Templating Teams, Project Coordination Teams to ensure CNC programs and production drawings are accurate, practical, and ready for manufacturing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CAD & Drawing Preparation
- Create and modify accurate CAD drawings for countertop fabrication.
- Interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, sketches, templates, and job specifications.
- Develop detailed production drawings showing dimensions, cut-outs, seams, edges, radiuses, and other fabrication requirements.
- Review drawings for accuracy and identify potential fabrication issues before production.
- Make revisions and adjustments based on field measurements, templating information, and production requirements.
- Ensure drawings comply with company fabrication standards and project specifications.
- Maintain organized electronic files and revision control.
CNC Programming
- Create and optimize CNC programs for stone fabrication equipment.
- Convert approved CAD drawings into machine-ready files.
- Program cutting, drilling, polishing, profiling,
sink cut-outs, faucet holes, and other CNC operations.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting paths, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies.
- Optimize programs to improve production efficiency and minimize material waste.
- Verify CNC programs before releasing them to Production.
- Troubleshoot programming or machining issues and make necessary corrections.
Production Support
- Work closely with Shop Foremen and CNC operators to ensure programs are practical and efficient.
- Provide technical support to fabrication staff when programming or drawing issues arise.
- Review completed work and assist in identifying the cause of fabrication errors.
- Make programming adjustments when required to improve quality or production efficiency.
- Assist with developing standardized CNC programming procedures and best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Fabrication Department.
Quality Control
- Verify dimensions and specifications before releasing files to Production.
- Ensure sink, cooktop, faucet, electrical, and other cut-outs are accurately programmed.
- Confirm edge details, seams, radiuses, and other fabrication requirements are correctly represented.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, templates, and job specifications before fabrication begins.
- Help reduce remakes, material waste, and production errors through accurate programming and quality control.
Communication & Coordination
- Communicate effectively with Production, Templating, Project Coordination, and Installation teams.
- Clarify discrepancies or missing information before releasing a job for production.
- Communicate programming concerns that may affect fabrication, installation, cost, or schedule.
- Maintain clear documentation of revisions and changes.
- Participate in production meetings and problem-solving discussions as required.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Required
- Experience with CAD drafting and/or CNC programming.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Excellent understanding of dimensions, measurements, geometry, and fabrication requirements.
- Robust attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to identify potential manufacturing issues before production.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized software and machinery.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with production teams.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred / Assets
- Experience in the stone, countertop, millwork, cabinetry, or manufacturing industry.
- Experience programming CNC stone fabrication equipment.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software.
- Experience with CNC routers, saws, waterjets, or bridge saws.
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
- Experience with nesting and material optimization software.
- Knowledge of quartz, granite, porcelain, Dekton, and other slab materials.
- Understanding of countertop fabrication and installation processes.
- Experience with digital templating systems.
- Previous experience working directly in a fabrication environment.
