CAD & Manufacturing Coordinator

JL Metals is seeking a highly organized, technically minded CAD & Manufacturing Coordinator to join our team. This position plays an important role in preparing and coordinating work between our sales team and manufacturing floor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for CAD work, laser nesting, reviewing drawings and job requirements, and ensuring production information is accurate, organized, and ready before work reaches the shop floor.

We are looking for someone who is very mathematically inclined, exceptionally organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities at once. The ideal candidate will have previous CAD and nesting experience along with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes.

This is not simply a CAD or nesting position. We are looking for someone who can understand the entire manufacturing job, identify potential issues, organize information, and help ensure work moves efficiently through production.

Key Responsibilities

· Create, review, modify, and prepare CAD drawings for production.

· Nest parts for laser cutting with a strong focus on material utilization and efficiency.

· Review customer drawings, DXF files, PDFs, and other technical documentation.

· Verify dimensions, material thicknesses, quantities, and part specifications prior to production.

· Perform calculations involving dimensions, tolerances, material usage, weights, and quantities.

· Identify potential drawing, nesting, or production issues before jobs reach the shop floor.





· Organize and prioritize multiple jobs based on production requirements and deadlines.

· Maintain accurate electronic files, drawings, revisions, and job documentation.

· Communicate with sales, production, and shop personnel to resolve technical questions.

· Assist with first-off verification and ensure manufactured parts correspond with customer drawings.

· Monitor nesting efficiency and material yield.

· Look for opportunities to reduce scrap and improve material utilization.

· Manage multiple active jobs while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

· Previous CAD experience is required.

· Previous laser nesting experience is strongly preferred.

· Experience in steel fabrication, sheet metal, laser cutting, or a similar manufacturing environment is an asset.

· Strong mathematical and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

· Robust understanding of dimensions, fractions, decimals, tolerances, and basic geometry.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Ability to multitask and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.





· Comfortable communicating with both office and shop-floor personnel.

· Strong computer skills and ability to learn new manufacturing software.

· Able to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.

Technical experience is important, but we are equally interested in how you think and work. The successful candidate will be someone who is naturally organized, mathematically inclined, detail-oriented, and able to keep track of many moving pieces at once. You should enjoy solving problems and catching mistakes before they become production problems.

This is not simply a data-entry or drafting position. We are looking for someone who understands that good planning, accurate drawings, and efficient nesting have a direct impact on production efficiency, material costs, quality, and delivery performance.
