We are currently seeking candidates for the role of Child Care Assistant. We are looking for people who are passionate about working with children, willing to engage, play and to be a support for the children.

We are hiring for many of our sites across the Durham Region. Candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, after school between the hours of 2-6 depending on the site they are chosen to work at.

Candidates should be willing and able to work with school age children between the ages of 4-12.

If selected for an interview, interviews will be held Monday August 17

Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, and have access to their immunization records including tetanus, diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps and rubella.

The Role of an Assistant is:

- to assist the Early Childhood Educator in the daily planning and implementation of the program plan.
- to engage in play and activities with the children. Being a co-learner and explorer with the children in the program.

-to assist is documentation and goals of the children they work with.

- prior experience in a child care setting is an asset.

-must have the necessary skills to work independently with small groups of children (13-15 at a time)

-guiding children's behaviour and supporting their needs

-to be an enhancement to the child care staff. Available to complete jobs as needed, so ratios are not affected, such as supply gathering, helping a child needing a change of clothing, etc.





-to be a member of the team that is responsible for the plans and goals so that all staff have a chance to aid the child/children in working on speech and language, social/ play, self-help skills etc.

-to provide opportunities for all the program staff to interact with the child/children with special needs by carrying on with washroom routines (some diapering may be necessary), finishing a story or game, cleaning up creative and play areas.

-to interact, respond positively and encourage opportunities for success for all the children in the program by making changes to a game, activity, or by helping hand over hand.

-to provide support and assistance to the regular program staff of the child care center.

-to promote independence of child / children with special needs to help keep up with all aspects of the program including snack times, washroom and outdoor play.

-to suggest ideas, participate in discussions and attend staff meetings as required assisting with the inclusion of the child / children with special needs into the regular programmed activities.
