Position: Child Support Worker

Program: Lumby After School Program

Location: Lumby, BC

Hours: Part-time, approximately 10 hours per week (2 hours per day),

Monday to Friday 2:30-4:30PM. Would be willing to look at job sharing.

Wage: $25-28 per hour

Term: September 2026 to June 2027

About Whitevalley Community Resource Centre

Whitevalley Community Resource Centre (WCRC) is a community-based, non-profit organization serving Lumby, Cherryville, Lavington, and surrounding rural communities. We provide a wide range of programs and services for children, youth, families, adults, and seniors.

Our After School Program provides a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children in Kindergarten through Grade 6. We believe every child should have the opportunity to participate, build relationships, develop new skills, and feel a sense of belonging.

The Opportunity

WCRC is seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic Child Support Worker to provide one-to-one support to a child with additional support needs attending our After School Program.

The successful candidate will work alongside our program staff to help the child participate safely and meaningfully in daily activities, while encouraging independence, positive social interactions, and inclusion within the larger group.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a meaningful difference in a child's experience within a community program.

Key Responsibilities The Support Worker will:

- Provide individualized support to the child throughout the After School Program.




- Assist the child in participating in activities, games, crafts, outdoor play, and group programming.
- Support positive social interactions and inclusion with peers.
- Help the child develop and use strategies that promote independence and participation.
- Provide encouragement, reassurance, and positive guidance.
- Follow any individualized support strategies or recommendations provided by the family or appropriate professionals.
- Assist with transitions, including school pick-up, arrival at the program, changes in activities, and departures.
- Support the child's safety and well-being while maintaining appropriate supervision.
- Help identify potential challenges or triggers and work proactively to support successful participation.
- Communicate appropriately with program staff regarding the child's needs, progress, and any concerns.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy and dignity of the child and family.
- Work collaboratively with the After School Program team to create an inclusive and positive environment for all children.
- Participate in other program activities and responsibilities as appropriate.
- Assist with toileting

Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

- Education Assistant, Special Education Assistant, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Child and Youth Care, or a related education/experience.
- Previous experience supporting children with additional needs.
- Experience working in an after-school, childcare, school, camp, or community program setting.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain it.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check, as required.
- Current references.
