TITLE: CNC Operator

DEPARTMENT: Shop Operations
Pay: From CA$25.00 per hour based on experience
OVERVIEW: The CNC Operator is responsible for operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision parts and components as per the specifications. This role requires strong technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Minimum 5 years operating and programming CNC milling machines, including complex 3D components.
- Experience with high-speed and hard-milling techniques.
- Proficiency with in-machine probing and laser tool-setting systems.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with high standards for cleanliness and workplace organization.
- Commitment to health & safety, continuous learning, and quality excellence.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages such as G-code and M-code.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software to create and modify machining programs; experience with popular platforms is preferred.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications accurately.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail to identify issues quickly and implement effective solutions.
- Familiarity with machine tools, tooling setups, and maintenance procedures.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams and document technical information clearly.
MACHINE SETUP & OPERATION
- Load cutting tools, fixtures, and workpieces using vises, electro-magnets, clamping, pallets, and other work-holding strategies.
- Set machine offsets for workpiece position and tool sizes using in-machine probing, indicators, and laser measurement systems.
- Read and interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, and G-code for setup,
troubleshooting, and adjustment.
PLANNING, QUALITY & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Manage and prioritize work to optimize machine utilization and meet project deadlines.
- Inspect first-run and in-process parts to confirm conformance to tight tolerances.
- Identify and implement improvements to tooling, programs, and processes.
- Establish and uphold programming, tooling, and work-holding standards that raise quality and machine utilization across the milling cell.
- Continuously reduce cycle times and improve surface finish without compromising tolerance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand for extended periods during machine operation.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Manual dexterity for precision work and fine adjustments.
- Visual acuity to read measurements and inspect parts to tight tolerances.
NOT NEEDED BUT WOULD BE CONSIDERED AN ASSET
- Develop and write CNC programs based on engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accurate machining of parts.
- Analyze project requirements and select appropriate tools, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies to maximize efficiency and quality.
- Test and validate CNC programs through simulations before implementation on the shop floor, making adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with machinists and engineers to troubleshoot programming issues, resolve discrepancies, and improve machining processes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of CNC programs, modifications, and operational procedures for quality control and future reference.
- Monitor machine performance during production runs, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Continuously seek opportunities to optimize programming techniques, reduce cycle times, and improve overall productivity.

JOB TYPE: Full-time/afternoons – 4 shifts/week
SALARY: From $25/hour based on experience
SCHEDULE: Afternoon Shift $1.50 shift premium
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
