Job Summary
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Coordinator works to support all areas of communications for Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) as required for the planning, development and implementation of high quality, internal and external communications programs in support of both organization's strategic goals and priorities.
Qualifications And Experience
- Degree or diploma in communications, journalism or public affairs.
- Three-Five (3-5) years’ experience in communications roles preferably in healthcare or not for profit organizations.
- Knowledge of provincial governments, and Ministries of Health and Long-Term Care, is an asset.
- Experience working with Creative Media is an asset (i.e. Video, photography, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Excellent editing & video editing skills
- Previous use of social media platforms and social media management.
- Previous use of a Content Management System (CMS).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft SharePoint an asset.
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated writing skills for a variety of communications tools and tactics, including news releases, social media platforms, editorials, patient/staff stories, publications, marketing materials, and websites.
- Exceptional, editing, and oral communication skills and proficiency communicating and engaging effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Media monitoring and tracking.
- Ability to interpret, translate, and distill research from primary sources into compelling, engaging, and enlightening communications.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills to plan projects,
achieve results and meet critical timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Ability to make decisions, exercise judgment and take initiative in dealing with confidential information and/or in responding to inquiries.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as with others and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.

Responsibilities
- Creates and develops strategic communications documents, including memos, annual reports, press releases, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, social media posts, posters and brochures/marketing materials.
- Manages SMH’s Intranet, SMH Staff Connect and creates new SharePoint pages as needed for the hospital.
- Manages and maintains the SMH website and hospital social media platforms.
- Researches, writes, and edits engaging and compelling news or patient stories through storytelling, including interviewing participants.
- Manages the hospital’s internal staff recognition program, Caught You Caring.
- Supports the development and creation of signage for the hospital (internal and external).
- Creates and develops video content including interview preparation, editing and design as well as photography for social media or for marketing purposes.
- Assists with designing and supporting hospital campaigns.
- Builds strong relationships with hospital stakeholders, including staff, physicians, volunteers, and patients to gather relevant content to inform and drive communications activities.
- Provides ongoing media monitoring of SMH news coverage.
- Works within SMH brand guidelines and writing style guide to champion the brand, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Assists and participates in preparing and planning hospital events.
- Adheres to departmental and legislated health and safety standards.
- Attends and completes hospital/team training and other professional development.
- Performs other duties consistent with job classification, as required.

Hours of Work: Monday through Friday. Evening or weekend work as needed.
