We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on, and technically skilled Cosmeceutical Batcher & Chemist to join our growing manufacturing and R&D; team.
This position combines cosmetic manufacturing, batch production, quality control, formulation development, and research & development. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately manufacturing existing formulations while also having the technical ability to independently develop new products from concept to market.
This is an ideal chance for a chemist or formulation professional who enjoys working both in the laboratory and on the production floor. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently, conducting research, developing formulations from scratch, troubleshooting formulation challenges, and transitioning successful products into commercial production.
Key Responsibilities
Batching & Manufacturing
- Accurately weigh and measure raw materials according to approved formulations and batch sheets.
- Manufacture cosmetic, cosmeceutical, personal care, and related products according to established procedures.
- Prepare products such as creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, cleansers, body care products, serums, gels, and other formulations.
- Operate mixers, homogenizers, heating/cooling systems, scales, and other production equipment safely and efficiently.
- Follow approved formulas, processing parameters, and manufacturing procedures.
- Monitor batches throughout production to ensure consistency and quality.
- Perform controlled pH adjustments, viscosity adjustments, and other in-process modifications when required.
- Scale formulations accurately from laboratory batches to production quantities.
- Maintain accurate batch records, production logs, and manufacturing documentation.
Research & Development
- Independently research, develop, and formulate new cosmetic, cosmeceutical, and personal care products.
- Take a product concept, customer requirement, or market opportunity and develop the product from concept through commercialization.
- Develop formulations from scratch when an existing formulation is not provided.
- Research raw materials, active ingredients, emulsifiers, surfactants, preservatives, thickeners, oils, fragrances, and other functional ingredients.
- Evaluate ingredient compatibility, functionality, concentration, stability, availability, and cost.
- Design and conduct laboratory trials and document formulation results.
- Develop multiple prototypes and systematically optimize formulations based on test results.
- Troubleshoot issues such as separation, instability, viscosity changes, precipitation, incompatibility, colour changes, odour, texture, and other formulation problems.
- Conduct appropriate product testing, including pH, viscosity, appearance, colour, odour, texture, and stability assessments.
- Research new ingredients, technologies, and market trends to identify opportunities for new product development.
- Develop production-ready formulations and manufacturing procedures.
- Work with the production team to successfully scale up R&D; formulations into commercial batches.
- Assist with product specifications, technical documentation,
formulation records, and other documents required for commercialization.
- Evaluate and optimize formulas to achieve the desired performance while maintaining cost efficiency.
- Maintain organized laboratory records and ensure all R&D; work is properly documented.
Quality Control
- Inspect raw materials before use and verify lot numbers, quantities, and documentation.
- Perform in-process quality checks during manufacturing.
- Test and record pH, viscosity, appearance, colour, odour, and other applicable product characteristics.
- Identify and communicate quality issues promptly.
- Investigate deviations and formulation inconsistencies and assist in determining root causes.
- Collect and label samples for QC and stability testing.
- Ensure proper traceability of raw materials and finished products.
- Assist with stability and compatibility testing as required.
Raw Material & Inventory Coordination
- Work closely with the warehouse team to ensure required raw materials are available before production.
- Verify raw material identity, lot numbers, and quantities.
- Assist in evaluating alternative raw materials and suppliers for formulation and cost optimization.
- Communicate raw material requirements and potential shortages to management.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of chemical and cosmetic ingredients.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete batch manufacturing records, weighing sheets, production records, and R&D; documentation accurately.
- Prepare and maintain formulation records and product specifications.
- Review and understand SDS, COA, TDS, specifications, and technical documents.
- Follow WHMIS, GMP principles, workplace safety procedures, and company policies.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe laboratory and production areas.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and maintained appropriately between batches.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, product consistency, quality, and cost.
- Develop and improve manufacturing procedures and processes.
- Recommend improvements to formulations, equipment, raw materials, and production methods.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing and R&D; operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in cosmetic, cosmeceutical, personal care, pharmaceutical, chemical, or related manufacturing/R&D.;
- Strong understanding of cosmetic and personal care formulation principles.
- Demonstrated ability to develop formulations from scratch based on a product concept or target specifications.
- Experience with emulsions, surfactant systems, viscosity modification, pH adjustment, preservation, stability,
and ingredient compatibility.
- Experience operating laboratory and production equipment such as mixers, homogenizers, pH meters, viscometers, scales, heating/cooling systems, and related equipment.
- Strong mathematical skills for formulation calculations, batch scaling, percentages, and raw material quantities.
- Ability to independently research ingredients and technical information.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take ownership of an R&D; project with minimal supervision.
- Ability to transition laboratory formulations into production-scale batches.
- Strong understanding of quality control and documentation procedures.
- Knowledge of GMP, WHMIS, cosmetic regulations, ingredient safety, and regulatory requirements is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Important Role Expectation
This position is not limited to batching existing formulas. The successful candidate must be capable of independently taking a product idea or customer requirement and carrying out the full R&D; process—from ingredient research and initial formulation, through laboratory testing, troubleshooting, optimization, documentation, scale-up, and ultimately commercialization.
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, scientifically minded, creative, independent, and capable of taking ownership of both production and product development.
Pay: $25.00-$28.00 per hour
