Overview The Crack Filler/Painter is responsible for preparing, repairing, and finishing interior and exterior surfaces as part of the rebuild phase following water, fire, mold, or storm damage. This role focuses on high-quality surface preparation, crack filling, drywall finishing, priming, and painting to restore properties to pre-loss condition.
The Crack
Filler/Painter works closely with carpenters and project managers to ensure smooth, durable, and professional results on all restoration projects.
Responsibilities -
Surface Preparation & Crack Filling
- Perform drywall repairs including patching, taping, mudding, sanding, and finishing.
- Fill cracks, holes, seams, and damaged areas caused by water or fire events.
- Feather edges and create smooth transitions between repaired and existing surfaces.
- Prepare surfaces for paint by sanding, cleaning, scraping, and priming as required.
Painting & Finishing Work
- Apply primer, paint, stain, and coatings to walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and other surfaces.
- Match existing colors, textures, and finishes to meet restoration standards.
- Use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve professional, even finishes.
- Inspect completed work for quality, consistency, and durability.
Disaster Restoration–Specific Duties
- Repair and restore walls, ceilings, and surfaces impacted by fire, smoke, water, and mold damage.
- Work in environments requiring PPE, containment, and strict cleanliness.
- Collaborate with mitigation and rebuild teams to stay aligned with project timelines.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
- Safely operate painting equipment, sanding tools, taping tools, ladders, and scaffolding.
- Maintain and clean tools, brushes, sprayers, and other equipment daily.
- Follow all company safety protocols, especially in post-disaster environments.
- Properly handle paints, solvents, and chemicals following WHMIS/OSHA guidelines.
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Work with carpenters, helpers, and project managers to coordinate job sequence.
- Communicate material needs, progress updates, and any issues or delays.
- Interact with homeowners and clients in a qualified and respectful manner.
- Fill cracks, holes, seams, and damaged areas caused by water or fire events.

Qualifications
- Prior experience in manufacturing or warehouse environments is highly preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge or familiarity with hand tools enhances your ability to perform tasks effectively.
- Valid forklift certification or experience operating forklifts is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow detailed instructions accurately.
- Basic understanding of assembly processes, packaging procedures, and warehouse safety protocols.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials safely, and work in a fast-paced setting.
- Knowledge of general maintenance or mechanical systems is advantageous but not required.
