Data Product Analyst – Azure Data Engineering

Location: Edmonton, Alberta / Primarily Remote within Canada

Onsite Requirement: Up to 3–4 times per month in Edmonton, as required

Work Hours: 36.25 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Product Analyst / Senior Azure Data Engineer to support the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS), a major Government of Alberta modernization initiative.

The successful candidate will design, develop, and support scalable data products and enterprise data pipelines using the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem. This role will focus on creating trusted, analytics-ready datasets, integrating data from multiple enterprise systems, implementing data quality and governance standards, and ensuring reliable operation of data pipelines and analytics solutions.

The ideal candidate will have solid hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Python, SQL, and cloud-based data engineering.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, and technical teams to understand data requirements and business objectives.
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance data solutions within Microsoft Azure.
- Develop enterprise data ingestion, transformation, and integration pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Design and manage data solutions using Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 and Delta Lake architecture.
- Build reliable and reusable ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and semi-structured datasets.
- Develop data transformation, cleansing, enrichment, and validation processes using Python, PySpark, and SQL.
- Create trusted, standardized, analytics-ready datasets for reporting, analytics, machine learning, and future AI use cases.
- Develop and maintain data models and semantic layers for downstream consumers.
- Integrate data from enterprise platforms including ServiceNow, APIs, databases, cloud services, and geospatial systems.
- Design and integrate secure RESTful APIs and data services using Azure API Management.
- Implement metadata management, data classification, lineage, and data governance standards.




- Apply security and privacy controls including RBAC, encryption, masking, and appropriate access controls.
- Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot performance, integration, and production issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive solutions.
- Work within established SDLC, Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
- Maintain source code and deployment artifacts using version control systems such as Git.
- Utilize AI-assisted tools for code generation, data analysis, automation, testing, optimization, monitoring, and technical documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities for DRAS data products and platform solutions.

Mandatory Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience designing data solutions that produce trusted, analytics-ready datasets.
- Minimum 4 years of experience using version control systems such as Git.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, networking, or related services.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Python and SQL experience within data engineering environments.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Minimum 1 year of experience using AI tools for code generation, data analysis, automation, optimization, testing, or documentation.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- 6+ years of hands-on experience performing business requirements analysis related to data solutions.
- 6+ years of Microsoft SQL Server experience.
- 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Previous experience building data products within the Government of Alberta cloud environment.
- 3+ years designing and integrating RESTful APIs.
- 3+ years working with message queuing or event-driven technologies, such as Azure Service Bus, Event Hubs, Kafka, or similar platforms.




- 5+ years working with cross-functional teams to design and deliver enterprise software or data solutions.
- Experience integrating ServiceNow with Azure-based data platforms.
- Experience with Azure API Management.
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, lineage, classification, and data quality frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Git, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.

Work Arrangement

- The position is primarily remote, but all work must be performed from within Canada.
- Candidates must be available to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton, Alberta, potentially 3–4 times per month or more depending on project requirements.
- Travel, accommodation, commuting, and other expenses associated with onsite meetings will not be reimbursed.
- Contractors are responsible for providing their own computer and remote-work equipment.
- Windows is strongly preferred for compatibility with Azure Virtual Desktop and Government of Alberta remote-access systems.

Additional Requirements
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
- Ability to complete required Government of Alberta privacy, security, and mandatory training.
- Candidate must be available to work standard Alberta business hours.
