United Way Greater Toronto is currently seeking a Development Writer to join our team.
How you will make a difference:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fundable Opportunities and Impact, the Development Writer will create compelling, donor-centered communications that support UWGT's fundraising and stewardship goals. Working collaboratively across the organization, the role develops customized funding proposals, impact reports, cases for support, and other fundraising materials for individual, foundation, and corporate donors.
The Development
Writer transforms UWGT's community impact into persuasive narratives that strengthen donor engagement and support the acquisition, retention, and stewardship of donors.
- Develop compelling fundraising, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials that advance UWGT's mission priorities, including grant applications, major gift proposals, impact reports, cases for support, and other donor-facing communications.
- Translate complex program, community impact, financial, and evaluation information into clear, persuasive narratives tailored to individual, foundation, and corporate audiences.
- Support fundraisers with engaging prospects and donors through developing customized communications and written materials that align with donor interests and organizational priorities.
- Collaborate with teams across UWGT, including Philanthropy, Community Impact, Finance, and Operations to develop strategy, gather accurate information, and communicate impact effectively.
- Work with the Marketing and Donor Experience team to develop and enhance stewardship collateral and donor communications that strengthen engagement and demonstrate impact.
- Edit, proofread, and refine content produced by internal and external contributors to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with UWGT's voice and brand standards.
- Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously, coordinating timelines, stakeholder input, and approvals to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality materials.
- Maintain systems and processes that support the efficient development of proposals, reports,
and other donor communications, including the resource repositories and project trackers.
- Apply program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting data to strengthen funding proposals, impact reporting, and donor stewardship efforts.
- Identify opportunities to enhance fundraising communications, storytelling, and donor engagement through continuous improvement of content, processes, and best practices.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and other projects that support UWGT's fundraising, communications, and organizational goals.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Word and PowerPoint, to create and format professional and visually compelling donor-facing materials.
What you bring to the role:
- 3-5 years of experience in grant writing, proposal development, fundraising communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Commitment to supporting the implementation of UWGT's Reconciliation and Equity Framework and integrating anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and equity-focused practices into daily work.
- Demonstrated initiative, critical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex information for audiences with varying levels of familiarity with the social services sector.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and PowerPoint, with the ability to create donor-facing materials; experience with Canva, InDesign, or similar design software is considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and client service skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with diverse communities, partners, and colleagues.
- Experience interpreting and communicating program outcomes, impact data, and evaluation findings is considered an asset.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or outside regular business hours as required.
