Position Summary The Faculty of Computer Science and ShiftKey Labs are seeking an energetic, creative, and highly skilled Digital Marketing Co-op Student to serve as a Digital Content Strategist for an 8-month work term.
The role supports both Faculty of Computer Science recruitment efforts as well as ShiftKey Labs marketingand communications. Reporting to the Manager of Undergrad Recruitment and the Director of ShiftKey Labs, you will be the driving force behind creating engaging social media content designed specifically for prospective undergraduate and graduate students. The focus of this role is high-impact visual storytelling, with a heavy emphasis on capturing the stories, academic experiences, and vibrant campus life of our current students and faculty.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
General
· Strategy Implementation: Collaborate with both teams to develop data-informed social media content calendars that align with critical goals and milestones.
· Platform Management: Actively manage, format, and schedule regular content across all primary platforms, optimizing posts to maximize reach among (prospective) students.
· Trends & Analytics: Stay on top of current social media trends (especially on TikTok and Instagram Reels) and monitor engagement metrics to continually improve content performance.
· Storytelling: Turn complex information about events, computer science programs, research initiatives,
and student success into digestible, accessible, and exciting digital stories.
· Compelling Copywriting: Write transparent, engaging, and persuasive captions, video scripts, and titles that resonate with target audiences.
1. Faculty of Computer Science Recruitment (Approx. 70%)
- Multimedia Production: Conceptualize, script, film, and edit high-quality graphics, photos, and video assets tailored specifically for Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Student & Faculty Features: Lead the creation of video profiles, interviews, and day-in-the-life segments featuring current computer science students and faculty members.
- Recruitment Messaging: Ensure all written and visual content maintains a consistent brand voice and accurately reflects the Faculty’s core recruitment messaging and academic pathways.
2. ShiftKey Labs Marketing (Approx. 30%)
· Promoting Events: Work with the ShiftKey team to create promotional content for workshops, innovation challenges, hackathons, entrepreneurship programs, and other initiatives
· Website: Regularly update events and initiatives on the ShiftKey website (Wordpress)
Ideal Candidate Profile & Qualifications The successful candidate is a motivated digital storyteller with an advanced technical background in video editing and a deep understanding of modern digital communications.
Required & Preferred Qualifications:
- Academic Background:
Currently enrolled in a recognized Co-op program (Business/Management, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field).
- Strong Video & Editing Skills: Proven proficiency in video production, including experience with filming equipment (or high-quality mobile shooting) and editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or Canva).
- Social Media Literacy: A strong working knowledge of what drives engagement across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Communications & Copywriting: Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to write compelling, error-free copy under tight deadlines.
- Context Switching: Ability to understand and work with the differences in branding guidelines, vision and target audiences of the recruitment and ShiftKey teams.
- Collaborative Mindset: Ability to take initiative, direct peers and faculty members during video shoots, and work seamlessly alongside the recruitment staff.
- Interest in Tech: A genuine interest or curiosity regarding technology, innovation, and the field of computer science is considered an asset.
