(SAF) is a 100% Canadian-owned company specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacturing of high-performance valves and flow equipment. Founded in 1989, SAF operates a fabrication facility in Delta, British Columbia, and maintains sales and engineering in Edmonton, Alberta.The Shop Hand is a vital member of the production team providing hands-on support across shop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high quality work. This role supports welders, fabricators, and assemblers by assisting with material preparation, painting, packing, shipping, and general shop activities.Responsible for completing projects as required, being flexible in task schedules, prioritizing, safe execution of tasks, and communicating with the team. This role is required to follow direction, work independently, and take initiative, and contribute to the overall success of the shop.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Production & Assembly SupportAssist welders, fabricators, and assemblers with daily production activities.Support valve assembly, staging, and packing according to instructions.Prepare parts, tools, and materials to support production schedules and testing activities.Steel Preparation & PaintingSand, grind, clean, and prepare steel components.Mask and prepare parts for painting.Apply industrial coating and spray paint parts and equipment in accordance with safety and quality standards.Support quality standards related to finish, coverage, and consistency.Shipping,



Receiving & Materials HandlingAssist with shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks.Pack components accurately and securely for shipment according to established standards.Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, or other equipment when trained and certified.Support material counting, staging, and storage.General Shop SupportPerform routine shop clean‑up and equipment upkeep.Troubleshoot basic shop issues and escalate concerns as required.Assist across departments as needed to maintain efficient production flow.Safety, Quality & Continuous ImprovementReview and demonstrate understanding of all company Health & Safety Policies and use of required PPE at all times.Contribute to a culture of teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.Participate in daily and weekly 5S activities, including improvements to reduce waste and increase efficiency.Maintain organized, clean, and safe workstationsDevelop an understanding of SAF materials, products, and quality expectations.Actively participate in Hazard ReportingAttend regular meetings.Participate in audit(s) as required.Complete Field/Site Assessments (as applicable).Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Post-secondary training or certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is an asset.Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a machining, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial shop environment.Familiarity with basic hand and power toolsOverhead cranes, forklifts,

Have knowledge of safe use of equipment and complete work with a safety first mindset.Cooperate and collaborate with SAF team to develop and maintain superior customer service and quality products.I.T.Basic computer skills (e.G., email, production tracking systems).Working Conditions:Physical Requirements – Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs. regularly. Standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely (after training/certification). Visual and auditory acuity to work safely in a production environment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.Environment – Full-time, on-site role in a machining and production shop workplace. Rapid-paced environment with frequent deadlines and shifting priorities. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and departments.
