Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based in Essex, ON for a Driver, Porter, General Workshop Assistant and Trainee Furniture Restorer. Day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and delivering furniture and restoration items, ensuring safe handling, loading, and unloading, and maintaining company vehicles in a clean and roadworthy condition. The role also involves assisting in the workshop with preparation, basic repairs, cleaning, and organizing materials and tools, while supporting experienced restorers with tasks such as sanding, polishing, and minor restoration work under supervision.
Additional duties include maintaining a tidy work setting, helping with inventory and storage of items,
and providing courteous, professional service when interacting with clients and insurance partners. As a trainee furniture restorer, the individual will learn traditional and modern restoration techniques and gradually take on more complex tasks as skills develop.
Qualifications
- Ability to safely drive company vehicles, with a valid driver’s license and a good driving record; comfortable with local and regional deliveries.
- Strong practical skills and manual dexterity, with interest in learning furniture restoration, repair, and finishing techniques.
- Basic workshop skills, including safe use of hand tools, care in handling delicate items, and attention to detail in cleaning and preparation work.
- Good physical fitness to handle lifting, carrying, and moving furniture and other items, while following safe working practices.
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow instructions, with a focus on maintaining a clean, orderly workshop and vehicle.
- Clear, polite communication skills and a professional manner when dealing with clients, colleagues, and insurance partners.
- Willingness to learn, take feedback, and develop long-term skills within a traditional craft and restoration environment.
- Previous experience in delivery driving, warehousing, carpentry, or a similar hands-on role is an asset but not required.
