Time is split 50/50 in each role

Location: Alcoma School

Contract Type: Term 1.00 FTE; Full Time (approximately 30 hours per week)

- Monday - Thursday: 8:20 AM to 3:15 PM
- Friday: 8:20 AM to 12:12 PM (Staff will be required to stay longer when training is being held)*

*working hours could change based on bell times.

Duration of Position: August 25, 2026 - June 29, 2027

ABOUT THE POSITION: Alcoma School is seeking applications for an Educational Assistant (EA) that will share their time supporting students in their learning and development as a mainstream EA and as a Pre K EA.

On a daily basis this position will require an individual with the skill set and understanding to support Pre-K students in their stage of development as well as students with mainstream needs from kindergarten to grade 9.

This is a full-time, term position beginning August 25, 2026, and ending on June 29, 2027.

This role requires patience, kindness, and resiliency, and an understanding of the importance of this role for our students, colleagues, and community.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL: Alcoma School is located in the small rural community of Rainier, Alberta. We are amongst the prairies with wide open space and the ability to spend lots of time in nature. Our school registration is open to all students in Brooks and Newell County, who are looking for a unique small school experience.

Our school is a bright, innovative, facility with a fully stocked beautiful kitchen, large gym, makerspace/skills area, community library and walking track. Due to our small class sizes, Alcoma has the ability to take unique field trips and can provide personalized experiences to which our students really love. We have an incredible parent council that funds our students school supplies, and fees, so our families don't have to worry about a thing!

Job Duties:

- support students with instruction and learning activities, as well as their physical, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- encourage positive and respectful interactions between students and staff;
- work closely and collaboratively with classroom teachers , school administration, and other members of the school team.
- Provide appropriate physical support and personal care, including lifting and transferring students, as required.
- Support students in participating in school activities , which may include swimming, outdoor sports, and other school-based activities.
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students can succeed.

Ideal candidates skills & abilities:

- Strong written, verbal, and reading communication skills.
- The ability to support students across subject areas appropriate to their grade level .




- The ability to support students with literacy and numeracy development .
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills .
- A genuine interest in working with elementary-aged students, including Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
- An understanding and appreciation of the mission and values of Grasslands Public Schools .
- The ability to contribute to a student-centred classroom and social environment that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Respect for and sensitivity toward individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- An understanding of the significant role Educational Assistants play in supporting students, families, and the broader community.
- Personal integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to establish positive relationships and rapport with students and coworkers.
- Patience, flexibility, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in a busy school environment.
- Understands and supports Grasslands Public Schools’ mission, values, and commitment to student success.

Education and Certifications:

- High school diploma.
- Experience working with children or other vulnerable populations in an educational, healthcare, or related setting.

Considered an asset but not a requirement:

- Post-secondary training in education, Educational Assistant, child development, or a related field
- Two or more years of experience working with children or in an education setting.

*A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Selected candidates of choice must submit the following as a condition of employment:

- A Current Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
- The original document is required to be submitted, and reported within the last 6 months of hire date.

Applicants cannot work before a clear CRC with VSC has been provided and cleared by the Superintendent.
