What you will do:

The role is responsible for contributing to AIL’s culture by exhibiting collaboration, curiosity, resilience, leadership, and accountability in a manner that supports AIL’s employee wellness, environmental sustainability, and profitability.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager with support from the Lead Technologist, the Engineering Technologist is primarily responsible for leading the development and preparation of engineering drawings to ensure design drawings conform to specifications and design data and are delivered on-time and on-budget.

Drafting & Detailing

- Develop and prepare detailed drawings and drawing packages for corrugated metal bridge structures and mechanically stabilized retaining walls using AutoCAD, Inventor, and proprietary drafting tools.
- Interpret engineering designs, calculations, and specifications prepared by engineers and translate them into transparent, accurate, and buildable drawings.
- Perform basic drawing checks to confirm dimensions, quantities, and details are consistent with engineering information and project documentation.

Project Coordination & Collaboration

- Manage assigned drafting projects to ensure drawings are completed on time, within scope, and in accordance with project priorities.
- Collaborate with sales, operations, managers, engineers,



and other team members to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure drawings are complete and accurate.
- Coordinate with clients and suppliers, as required, to obtain missing information, clarify drawing details, and support timely project completion.
- Participate in internal drawing-package reviews and contribute ideas to improve drafting standards, templates, and departmental procedures.

Continuous Improvement & Development

- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance drafting quality, efficiency, and overall team performance.
- Stay current with new drafting software features, tools, and industry practices through ongoing learning and training.
- Develop project management skills, including work planning, progress tracking, and priority management, with guidance from senior employees and supervisors.

What you will need:

Education

- Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Coursework or internship experience related to bridges, structural steel, or infrastructure projects is an asset.
- Experience or coursework in geometric design, steel detailing, or structural drafting is preferred.

Technical Skills

- Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD.
- Experience with Inventor or SolidWorks is a strong asset.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.




- General understanding of structural and/or civil engineering concepts sufficient to support accurate drafting.
- Familiarity with Canadian design codes, applicable industry standards, and safety regulations is an asset.
- Experience planning and organizing work against project timelines or budgets is an asset.
