Experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – IUOE Local 793

Gio Crete Construction Ltd. is looking for experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our crews working on municipal sewer and watermain projects, primarily within the City of Toronto and GTA.

Gio Crete specializes in municipal sewer and watermain construction. Our work is typically performed within active urban roadways with existing utilities, traffic and limited working space.

The Heavy Equipment Operator will work as part of an experienced sewer and watermain crew performing excavation, installation support and backfilling for municipal underground infrastructure.

Typical work includes

- Operating rubber-tire backhoes and excavators of various sizes, from smaller 0–8 ton machines to approximately 20 ton excavators
- Excavating for sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain installations
- Excavating safely and carefully around existing and live utilities
- Working with trench boxes, shoring systems and excavations
- Placing bedding and backfill materials
- Loading trucks and handling excavated material
- Supporting installation of maintenance holes, catch basins, valves, hydrants, chambers and other municipal infrastructure
- Working closely with pipe layers, foremen and other crew members
- Performing daily equipment inspections and maintaining equipment in safe operating condition

Experience & Qualifications

Several years of heavy equipment operating experience is required. Municipal sewer and watermain experience is strongly preferred.

We are looking for operators who:





- Have proven experience operating excavators and/or rubber-tire backhoes
- Are comfortable excavating trenches for underground infrastructure
- Have experience working around existing and live utilities
- Can perform careful, controlled excavation in congested areas
- Understand basic grades and excavation requirements
- Can work effectively with pipe layers, foremen and the rest of the crew
- Are dependable, safety-conscious and take pride in their work and equipment

Experience working on municipal sewer and watermain projects within the City of Toronto or other dense urban environments is a robust asset.

Applicants do not need experience on every type or size of equipment listed above, but should identify the equipment they are experienced operating.

Requirements

- Several years of heavy equipment operating experience
- IUOE Local 793 membership and valid union clearance
- Current WHMIS
- MOL Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps
- Valid Working at Heights
- Ability to reliably report to project locations throughout Toronto and the GTA

Position

This is a unionized IUOE Local 793 position. Wages, benefits, pension and applicable working conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement.

We are looking for experienced operators who are comfortable working as part of a sewer and watermain crew and understand the care required when excavating around existing infrastructure in an urban environment.

Pay: $54.43 per hour
