Applications are invited for the position of Consultant - Leadership & Parent Engagement (Indigenous Education). Under the direction of the Principal of Leadership and Parent Engagement and working in collaboration with the Coordinator, principals, teachers and non-teaching staff to implement Board and Ministry of Education initiatives. This role supports the K-12 system but will primarily focus on grades 7-12 and the high school courses. This assignment will start on August 31, 2026.

Responsibilities

- Collaborate, plan with, and support all teachers who are teaching English: Understanding Contemporary First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Voices (NBE3) & Expressions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Cultures (NAC1O)
- Assist with Ministry of Education initiatives, Board initiatives and committees, including Deep Learning, Equity, and multi-subject planning
- Support the delivery of the Indigenous education curriculum
- Provide professional learning opportunities and job embedded professional learning for educators in the Board
- Knowledge and understanding of land-based learning and its relation to Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing (Etuaptmumk)
- Assist in planning related budgets to support specific Indigenous Studies Consultant responsibilities
- Responsible for completing various Ministry and board reports
- Responsible for planning and implementing workshops and activities surrounding Indigenous days of significance throughout the school year, and at the system level
- Responsible for the reconciliACTION initiatives, as well as the Indigenous year-end annual celebrations
- Evaluate and provide suitable support materials to schools
- Support the development, implementation and monitoring of school and board improvement plans
- Support and promote the Gospel values and Catholic Graduate Expectations through department priorities and initiatives
- Assist schools with Student Success initiatives and to support Student Achievement planning (SAP)
- Use Google Suite of tools and social media to support effective communication
- Collaborate with members of board departments including Intermediate/Secondary Student Success, Elementary Student Success, Learning Technologies, and Special Education and Student Services

Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge And Skills





- Ontario College of Teachers Certificate in valuable standing
- Lived experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities
- A minimum of 2+ years of teaching experience (applicable for postings during the 2026/2027 school year)
- Specialist or honors specialist qualification
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Growing Success Document, the deep learning framework, differentiated instruction and current practices in assessment & evaluation
- Demonstrated knowledge of the most current First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies curriculum and strategies for implementation
- Creativity and expertise in leading and successfully implementing new initiatives at the school and/or system level, and the ability to develop partnerships
- Strong instructional leadership, organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to the building of Catholic and Indigenous professional learning communities
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, dynamic and creative team environment
- Strong technology skills, including Google Suite, social media, and related digital tools to support digital citizenship.
- Experience facilitating and presenting to groups of teachers
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, educational and community group

The Following Would Be Considered An Asset

- Intermediate / Secondary qualifications
- Teaching experience in both the elementary and secondary panels
- Qualification in First Nation, Métis and Inuit Studies
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSB Equity Framework & Indigenous Ed Framework

In accordance with Board Policy, this position will be for a three (3) year term. These terms may be extended one year at a time, for up to an additional two (2) years at the discretion of the Director of Education. The terms and conditions of this position shall be consistent with the terms outlined in the Collective Agreement and in accordance with Board Policy.
