We're looking for a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist to join the SimplyProtein team for a 15-month contract.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats and thrives in a fast-paced food company. This role is primarily focused on food safety, quality assurance, and supplier quality management, while providing support for selected regulatory activities. You'll work closely with internal teams, suppliers, co-manufacturers, and certification bodies to help ensure our products meet the highest standards for food safety, quality, and compliance.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Managing product testing, supplier quality programs and ongoing quality verification activities.
- Managing our consumer contact centre, complaint investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Conducting food safety, quality and risk assessments of prospective and existing suppliers, co-manufacturers, and raw materials.
- Managing supplier, ingredient, and co-manufacturer approval programs and documentation.
- Supporting maintenance of food safety and quality systems, including PCP, HACCP-based programs, and audit readiness activities.
- Supporting onsite audits of co-manufacturers, warehouses and suppliers as required.
- Maintaining certifications and claims such as Non-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, gluten-free, and plant-based.
- Monitoring quality performance metrics and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Providing support to Regulatory Affairs on product compliance, import/export requirements, and applicable Canadian and U.S. regulatory programs.
We're looking for someone who has:
- A degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Food Safety / Quality Assurance within the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems, supplier quality systems, HACCP principles, Preventive Control Plan (PCP) requirements and Canadian/U.S. food regulations.
- Experience working for a consumer-packaged goods (CPG) food brand is an asset.
- Experience working with co-manufacturers and external suppliers is an asset.
- Experience with GFSI-recognized food safety standards, third-party audits, or certification programs is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- A collaborative mindset and a passion for continuous improvement and problem-solving.
