Overview
We are seeking a energetic and results-oriented Food Services Consultant to join our growing sales team in the food distribution industry. This role is critical in driving revenue growth, expanding our market presence, and strengthening partnerships with foodservice operators, restaurants, grocery stores, and institutional clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business development and outside sales, with a passion for customer service and building long-term relationships in the food industry.
As a Food Services Consultant, you will be responsible for managing key client accounts, identifying new business opportunities, analyzing market trends, and negotiating contracts to consistently meet and exceed sales targets.
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday; evenings and weekends as required (flexibility to accommodate customer needs in a foodservice environment)
Compensation: Starting at $50,000-60,000/year + uncapped commission
Responsibilities
- Maintain and grow an existing portfolio of foodservice accounts by developing and implementing customer-centric strategies while achieving profitable sales growth
- Strategically increase market share by identifying and onboarding new customers, including restaurants, hotels, caterers, institutions, and independent grocers, while promoting our company brand, values, and product offerings
- Independently plan, develop, and execute sales calls, product presentations, and in-person visits to customers and prospects
- Leverage strong negotiation skills to manage pricing, secure profitable margins, and close new business opportunities
- Use deep product and food industry knowledge to deliver consultative selling, helping customers optimize their menus, control costs, and improve operational efficiency
- Maintain strong knowledge of the assigned territory, including competitive landscape, key players, and local foodservice trends
- Strategically manage a portfolio of accounts, providing regular feedback and reports to management, including accurate sales forecasting and profitability analysis
- Manage and assist with the accounts receivable collection process to ensure timely payments
- Independently develop and adjust pricing structures to meet and exceed company targets while remaining competitive in the market
- Assist in the smooth onboarding process of new accounts, including coordination with operations, logistics, and customer service teams
- Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work independently with a non-traditional schedule to meet the urgent and evolving needs of foodservice customers
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Business degree or 5–10 years of related experience in sales or business development (experience in food distribution, foodservice, or wholesale grocery is strongly preferred)
- Valid G-Class driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle
- Clean driving record and willingness to travel within the assigned territory
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in business development or outside sales, preferably in the food distribution industry, foodservice, or wholesale
- Demonstrated food industry knowledge in the market area
- Excellent communication skills, including speaking, reading,
and writing in English; proficiency in French would be considered a strong asset
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to build rapport, trust, and long-term partnerships with chefs, owners, and procurement managers
- Excellent analytical skills to assess market conditions, competitor activity, and identify new growth opportunities in the local foodservice sector
- Demonstrated negotiation skills with a proven track record of closing deals and growing profitable accounts
- Ability to effectively manage multiple accounts and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume food distribution environment
- Highly self-motivated, results-driven individual who thrives working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
Work Location: Head office is located in the City of Greater Sudbury, ON
