At Tabletop Theatre, we create opportunities for people to celebrate culture, explore creativity, and imagine together. You'll provide themed adventures and atmospheric storytelling experiences that expand on the entertaining elements that make tabletop gaming memorable; through experimental and artistic approaches inspired by folklore, theatre, and cultural influences rarely seen within mainstream Tabletop Roleplaying Games.

This role suits someone who wants creative work as part of a fuller life or portfolio, not someone needing guaranteed steady income.

Tabletop Theatre is a new, experimental company, hence the hours are irregular.

You don't need professional acting experience. What you need is the ability to make strangers feel welcome, guide groups without controlling them, and genuine curiosity about story, culture, and people.

Role Details

Position: Narrative Facilitator / Game Master

Start Date: December 2026 - February 2027

Employment type: Depending on experience and working style,



this role may be structured as an independent contractor engagement or as casual employment; we'll confirm which structure fits during the hiring process

Summary: Facilitate tabletop roleplaying experiences through hospitality, guided collaborative storytelling, and theatrical techniques; alongside shaping Tabletop Theatre's game repertoire.

Responsibilities:

Guest Experiences

- Welcome and onboard guests, including nervous first-timers unfamiliar with tabletop games or roleplay
- Read and manage group dynamics of up to 5; adjusting pacing and tone
- Maintain atmosphere and immersion throughout the session

Session Preparation
- Prepare and internalize session material ahead of bookings
- Coordinate logistics with Tabletop Theatre for venue, props, materials, and time

Collaboration & Development
- Test new experiences before public launch
- Contribute to refining facilitation techniques
- Help shape future game repertoire
- Collect and relay guest feedback

Qualifications a combination of (but not all):

- Background in improv, theatre, or performance
- Interest in folklore, cultural storytelling, or experimental narrative
- Experience in hospitality, facilitation, or guest-facing roles
- Comfortable leading and guiding group dynamics
- Experience with TTRPGs as a hobby

Compensation:

- Structure: Flat rate per session (not hourly), for a 3–4 hour session
- Rate: $80–150 CAD per session, based on experience




- Prep time: Flat rate of $20 per hour; includes worldbuilding and some game development. Scope of prep work is confirmed with you before it begins.
- Paid trial: $50 CAD for a 2-hour session, used to assess fit and facilitation skills

Nerdy Details

On D&D;:

- Tabletop Theatre develops and facilitates its own original tabletop experiences rather than using published Dungeons & Dragons adventures or rules.
- Game systems we’ll most likely use or implement include: Fate Accelerated, Burning Wheel, Heart. Systems that are lightweight, narrative focused, and built for theatrical play.

On acting / voice acting:
- Performance experience is helpful but not required. We value communication, hospitality, curiosity, and a willingness to learn just as much.

On artistic contributions:
- Original work created as part of your engagement with Tabletop Theatre may be subject to our intellectual property agreement, which will be discussed before work begins.
- Tabletop Theatre combines structured operations with creative collaboration. The founder focuses on systems, operations, and experience design, while facilitators are encouraged to bring their own strengths, artistic backgrounds, and ideas to each production. As trust and experience grow, facilitators may be given greater creative ownership and opportunities to help shape future repertoire.
