Rhizome HR
Toronto
Position: HR Generalist/ Associate HR Consultant
Hours: 40hrs/week Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000 (plus bonus incentives)
Location: Remote, occasional on-site in Toronto area
Want to accelerate your HR career?
Are you a few years into your HR career and thinking, “I’m ready for more”?
More ownership. More exposure. More opportunities to solve real problems instead of simply executing the same processes over and over again.
At Rhizome HR, you’ll get exactly that.
We work with growing businesses that need great HR thinking but aren’t ready to build large internal HR teams. That means no two days, or clients, look exactly the same.
This isn’t a traditional internal HR role. You’ll work across several client organizations at once, which means learning different businesses quickly, switching contexts throughout the day, and becoming comfortable working without a perfectly defined playbook.
One day, you might be helping a client hire a critical new team member. The next, you’re rolling out a new policy, improving the onboarding process, answering an employee question, organizing a performance cycle, or helping bring some much-needed structure to a growing company.
You’ll work alongside experienced HR professionals who will coach you, challenge you, and give you room to take ownership of your work.
If you’re passionate about HR and want to compress several years of learning into an environment where you’ll see and do a lot, this could be a pretty exciting next step.
The Chance
As an HR Generalist at Rhizome, you’ll support the delivery of HR across multiple growing businesses while developing the skills to become a trusted HR consultant.
We aren’t looking for someone who already knows everything. We are looking for someone with a solid HR foundation who has already demonstrated that they can manage details, communicate professionally, meet deadlines, and follow through without needing constant oversight.
You’ll be curious, organized, dependable, and hungry to learn, but you’ll also bring the judgment and confidence to take ownership of work and know when to ask for help.
What You’ll Own

You’ll help our clients find great people and make sure those people have a great start.
· Manage the full recruitment cycle, from job posting to offer coordination.
· Conduct initial candidate screenings and coordinate interviews.
· Prepare offer letters and support pre-boarding tasks
· Own the onboarding process, coordinating everything from HRIS setup and documentation to welcome sessions and first-week readiness.
· Look for ways to make hiring and onboarding more organized, consistent, and effective.
HR Operations & Systems
Positive HR depends on positive foundations. You’ll help make sure the details don’t fall through the cracks.
· Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS information

· Build and maintain HR templates, SOPs, trackers, and resources.

You’ll help clients stay ahead of their obligations as they grow.
· Support employment policy and legislative updates
· Track mandatory training and compliance requirements
· Support Health and Safety committees, inspections, documentation, and incident tracking.
· Help translate requirements into practical processes that actually work for the business.
Employee Experience & Communication
You’ll become a trusted point of contact for employees and managers.
· Respond to day-to-day employee questions.

· Support managers with scheduling and logistics for team development
Client & Project Ownership
This is where working at Rhizome is a little different.
You’ll be supporting multiple businesses at the same time, each with different priorities, personalities, systems and stages of growth.
You’ll learn to
· Prioritize work across multiple clients and deadlines
· Take ownership of projects from start to finish
· Communicate proactively about projects, roadblocks, and next steps
· Adapt quickly when priorities change
· Bring structure to situations that aren’t always perfectly defined.
· Build strong relationships with the people and businesses you support.
Over time, our goal is for you to grow from executing great HR work to confidently advising clients on what great HR should look like.
Who We’re Looking For
You likely have 1-3 years of HR experience in a Generalist, Coordinator, or similar role and have built a solid foundation across several areas of HR.
But experience alone isn’t what will make someone successful here.
You’ll probably love this role if you:
· Are genuinely excited about building a career in HR
· Take ownership: if you say you’ll do something, people know it will get done
· Are extremely organized and good at keeping track of lots of moving pieces
· Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively
· Ask questions when you don’t know something instead of quietly getting stuck
· Have strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
· Enjoy figuring things out and improving how things are done
· Can switch between different clients and priorities without becoming overwhelmed
· Are comfortable with some ambiguity(growing businesses don’t always come with perfect processes or instructions).
· Want feedback, mentorship, and opportunities that stretch you
· Get satisfied by helping other people and businesses succeed.
You’ll also bring:
· A working understanding of Canadian employment legislation
· Experience with HRIS platforms, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
· The ability to work independently in a remote environment
· CHRP/CHRL designation or progress towards one is an asset.
Why Rhizome?

Ownership. You won’t spend years waiting for someone to decide you’re ready for meaningful work. We’ll support you – and we’ll expect you to step up.
Mentorship. You’ll work closely with experienced HR professionals who want to help you become an excellent HR practitioner and eventually, an excellent consultant.
Learning. You’ll encounter situations earlier in your career that might take years to experience in a traditional internal HR role.
Impact. Our clients are growing businesses. The processes, programs, and foundations you help build will have a visible impact on how those companies operate and grow.
Career Path. For strong performers, there is a clear pathway from Associate-level consulting work through to leading client relationships and eventually operating as a Principal/Fractional CHRO. We believe that progression can happen much faster here than in a traditional HR environment.
