NOTE: This is an in-person tutoring position. We are not offering remote-only positions at this time. Online-only applicants will not be considered.
At Lomita Tutoring Corp., our tutors play a vital role in supporting and guiding students toward reaching their full academic potential. As a tutor, you are more than just an educator: you are a mentor, motivator, and problem-solver.
We are primarily seeking a tutor who is confident supporting students in English Language Arts and Social Studies at all grade levels. The ability to tutor Biology 20 and Biology 30 is considered a solid asset.
Provide Personalized Learning Support
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students in English Language Arts (all levels) and Social Studies (all levels).
- Ability to tutor Biology 20 and Biology 30 is a strong asset.
- Willingness to work with first-year university students is a plus, but not required.
- Adapt teaching methods to each student's learning style, needs, and pace.
- Identify academic gaps and use targeted strategies to help students improve.
Assist with Assignments & Exam Preparation
- Support students with assignments, projects, test preparation, PATs, and Diploma Exams where applicable.
- Explain challenging concepts in a clear and approachable way.
- Help students develop effective study, writing, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Build Confidence & Encourage Academic Growth
- Provide positive reinforcement and motivation to help students build confidence.
- Encourage students to think critically, analyze information, and develop strong learning habits.
- Promote a growth mindset and help students recognize their academic progress.
Create a Supportive & Engaging Learning Environment
- Foster a safe and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.
- Use engaging teaching techniques, examples, and learning resources appropriate to each student.
- Track student progress and provide feedback when required.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in university or holds a university degree.
- Strong knowledge of English Language Arts and/or Social Studies.
- Strong tutoring, teaching, or mentoring abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to different learning needs.
- Patient, reliable, professional, and passionate about helping students succeed.
In-Person & Availability Requirements
- Must be available for in-person tutoring sessions in St. Albert
- Weekday availability is required.
- Must have reliable transportation or the ability to travel to tutor in public locations in St. Albert
- Applicants seeking exclusively online work will not be considered.
Pay: $15.00-$30.00 per hour
