POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Early Years Manager, the Indigenous Supported Child Development (ISCD) Consultant provides culturally safe, family-centred early intervention and developmental support services for Indigenous children and youth (ages 3–19) with developmental support needs. Working collaboratively with families, community partners, and multidisciplinary professionals, the Consultant promotes inclusion, strengthens each child's circle of support, and helps children reach their developmental goals while honouring the strengths, culture, and values of each family.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Human Services, or a related field.
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate with Special Needs Designation preferred or required (depending on funding requirements).
- Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, including working with children with additional support needs
- Experience working with indigenous communities/children considered an asset
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, results acceptable to WFN
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract with access to a reliable vehicle required.
- Valid First Aid with CPR Level B
- Meets all immunization and tuberculosis screening requirements in accordance with provincial legislation and program requirements.




- Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

- Works collaboratively with the Westbank First Nation {WFN) staff including the Out of School Care Program (OSC), Westbank Child Development Centre (WCDC), Sensisyusten, the WFN Family Program, and the WFN Wellness Team, to support children that require additional assistance to fully participate in activities.
- Provides support, consultation, and training for parents/caregivers and childcare providers.
- Provides services that strengthen the child's ''Circle of Support'' within the context of their family and their community.
- Determines eligibility and levels of support that can be provided by a support worker
- Conducts developmental screenings and assessments when needed and refers to external professional assessments
- Creates an Individual Service Plan (ISP) for each child. These include strategies and activities for inclusion, as well as daily activities and experiences to meet developmental goals and objectives.
- Informs families of available resources and supports and makes referrals to relevant services as needed.
- Maintains comprehensive, up-to-date electronic files for each child, ensuring necessary forms and consents are complete. Prepares and completes reports as required by the province
- Ensures timely and accurate reporting as required by the province.
- Assists in transitions to kindergarten, middle school, or other transitions that may impact the child.
- Works within a flexible schedule and performs other duties as necessary in the performance of the position and as directed.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with WFN policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by Early Years Manager.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills




- Previous experience working with Indigenous children and their families.
- Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with children and families.
- Ability to establish and maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with families, childcare setting staff, child development professionals, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of Westbank First Nation and of the support services offered within the community.
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed, family-centered, and inclusive practice
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use a cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous children, families, and communities.

The median salary for this position is $61,656.73 This is a term position set to end March 31, 2027
