Position Description

School District No. 60 (Peace River North) is seeking an enthusiastic and relationship-focused Indigenous Cultural Coordinator (STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, Innovation and Careers) to join our Indigenous Education team.

This exciting district-wide position plays a key role in supporting Indigenous student success by creating engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, innovation, and future career exploration. Working collaboratively with students, educators, local First Nations, families, and community partners, the successful candidate will help strengthen Indigenous student engagement while building educator capacity to integrate Indigenous perspectives throughout STEAM education.

The Indigenous Cultural Coordinator (STEAM, Innovation and Careers) will report to the Principal/Vice Principal of Indigenous Education and the Director of Instruction

This position is from September 1, 2026. This position will be eight (8) hours per day 5 days a week, with some of those hours being outside of the regular scheduled school hours. The annual FTE for this position is 0.83.

Salary to be determined based on Education and Experience. The starting annual salary for this position is expected to be between $60,860.58 - $76,076.14.

This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for overtime and it is not part of a Union.

Work Year: 10 month (September 1 to June 30)

Hours: 40 hours/week, minimum 8 hours per day

Responsibilities

Grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, place-based learning, and the principles of Truth and Reconciliation, the Indigenous Cultural Coordinator (STEAM, Innovation and Careers) will:

- Serve as cultural liaison between local First Nations Communities, students, parents, and school staff. Facilitate communication and collaboration to ensure cultural needs and perspectives are considered.
- Advocate for Indigenous students, ensuring their unique needs are addressed, and they have access to resources and support.
- Support Indigenous students in exploring post-secondary education, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and careers in STEAM fields.

- Organize cultural awareness programs, workshops, and events within schools/district to promote understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures, history, and traditions with an emphasis on local First Nation culture and knowledge with a focus on STEAM experiences, clubs, projects, camps, and experiential learning opportunities.
- Assist in the organization and planning of district cultural events and professional development events hosted by SD 60 Indigenous Education Department.





- Facilitate professional learning and share high-quality STEAM and Indigenous Education resources with educators.

- Assist in the development and adaptation of educational resources that reflect Indigenous perspective and content, with an emphasis on local First Nation’s knowledge/culture, supporting teachers and students in their learning.
- Maintain an updated Indigenous Education pamphlet and website, create and distribute monthly newsletter.
- Apply for funding from diverse sources, including writing proposals and reports for grant applications with a specific focus on STEAM initiatives, grants, special projects, and events.
- Assist in maintaining up-to-date Indigenous Education department statistics, finances and board reports in relation to STEAM learning
- Collaborate with local First Nations communities to involve them in the educational process, seeking input into cultural programs

- Develop partnerships with local First Nations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, post-secondary institutions, industry, and community organizations.

- Offer training and professional development opportunities for educators and SD 60 staff to enhance their understanding of First Nations cultural and pedagogical practices.

- Collaborate with teachers to integrate Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into STEAM learning.

Qualifications The successful applicant will possess:

- A preference for candidates with Indigenous heritage, understands and is fluent in a First Nations language and a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions and perspectives.
- 2 years post secondary education in Social Work, Youth Care, Indigenous Studies, and related experience. An equivalent combination of education, lived experience, and relevant training will be considered. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Significant experience in Indigenous education, community engagement, or related fields, demonstrating a track record of advocacy for Indigenous students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, educational staff and community members.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and the ability to foster inclusive and respectful environments.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to plan and execute cultural events and programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing needs and circumstances within the educational system.




- Valid driver’s license as this position will require travel to schools and First Nations Communities.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- STEAM education, coding, robotics, maker education, engineering design, digital technologies, or arts integration.
- Supporting classroom instruction or educational programming.
- BC K–12 Curriculum and Indigenous Education initiatives.

Additional Requirements

- Ability to participate in cultural activities, professional learning, and land-based educational experiences.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required
