The Opportunity

Behind every successful research project is someone who helps turn great ideas into funded opportunities. Could that be you? As the Institutional Programs Officer, you'll play a vital role in advancing research and innovation at Toronto Metropolitan University by helping researchers navigate the path from promising ideas to funded projects of strategic importance to the University. You'll help ensure that researchers can focus on what they do best—pursuing discoveries that create knowledge, solve real-world challenges, and improve lives—while you provide the expertise that helps move their work forward.

In this collaborative and fast-paced role, you'll support researchers throughout the entire funding lifecycle, from identifying funding opportunities and developing competitive applications to coordinating submissions, administering research agreements, and supporting post-award activities. Your attention to detail, sound judgment, and commitment to service excellence will help ensure proposals, awards, and agreements meet university and sponsor requirements while positioning researchers for success.

You'll also coordinate internal funding competitions and adjudication processes, provide expert guidance on sponsor requirements and university policies, and work closely with faculty members, funding agencies, industry, community organizations, and research partners to strengthen collaboration and unlock new opportunities for research and innovation.

Qualifications To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

- Completion of a graduate degree in a related field to gain knowledge of writing successful research/grant proposals and qualitative and quantitative forms of research.




- A minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting research funding, research administration, institutional research programs, grants and contracts administration, or a related function within a university, research institute, hospital, government, or comparable environment.
- Experience supporting proposal development, funding applications, sponsor relations, research agreements, and post-award administration is required.
- Experience supporting major institutional funding initiatives, strategic funding competitions, or multi-stakeholder research projects.
- Experience supporting research funding applications, agreement administration, sponsor relations, and post-award activities is required.
- Experience with major Canadian funding agencies, institutional funding programs, and research compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with the Horizon Europe Program is an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
