Position Summary
The WT&C; Instrument Technician is responsible for the secure installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems that support Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Cooling Water systems, Boilers, Utilities, and associated process equipment. The role ensures equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and safe plant operation through the application of operational discipline and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Operational Excellence
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and Operational Discipline.
- Follow all OEMS requirements, safe work practices, permits, isolations, and control procedures.
- Participate in field risk assessments, HOP principles, and continuous improvement activities.
- Identify and communicate equipment reliability or process risks.
Instrument Maintenance & Reliability
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment.
- Calibrate, repair, and commission:
- Pressure transmitters
- Flow transmitters
- Level transmitters
- Temperature transmitters
- Control valves and valve positioners
- Analyzers and analytical systems
- Guided Wave Radar (GWR) devices
- Pneumatic and electronic instrumentation
- Test equipment functionality and verify accuracy against control system readings.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation,
communication, and control system problems to minimize process interruptions.
Control Systems Support
- Support DCS, PLC, and plant control systems through field device maintenance and verification.
- Perform loop checks, function tests, and validation of process control equipment.
- Assist Operations and Engineering in commissioning new systems and equipment upgrades.
- Verify alarm functionality, interlocks, and process control strategies.
Turnaround & Outage Support
- Support shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance events.
- Participate in planning, execution, commissioning, and post-outage reviews.
- Assist with scope development, job walkdowns, and technical troubleshooting during outages.
- Provide status updates and technical guidance during execution activities.
Planning & Documentation
- Complete maintenance documentation, calibration records, and SAP notifications/work orders accurately and on time.
- Review and update maintenance procedures and task lists.
- Support development and continuous improvement of maintenance standards and procedures.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Reliability, Engineering, Projects, and Maintenance disciplines.
- Mentor apprentices, new employees, and less experienced technicians.
- Share technical knowledge and best practices across the organization.
- Support competency development and technical training initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician certification (Red Seal preferred).
- Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation and process control systems.
- Experience with water treatment, utility, power generation, or industrial process equipment.
- Working knowledge of SAP or equivalent maintenance management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- P&IDs;
- Loop drawings
- Instrument datasheets
- Wiring schematics
- Control narratives
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Experience
- Water Treatment Plant operations.
- Cooling Water systems.
- Analyzer maintenance.
- Emerson, Fisher, Rosemount, ABB, Endress+Hauser, or similar instrumentation platforms.
- Turnaround and outage execution.
- DCS and PLC interface troubleshooting.
