The Instrumentation Technician is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for instrumentation and control systems across the operating area. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced maintenance professional with strong knowledge of maintenance practices, equipment history, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and control systems.
The individual must possess a thorough understanding of instrumentation systems, control strategies, maintenance procedures, and equipment performance history. They will serve as a key resource in identifying equipment reliability risks, developing maintenance strategies, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise on instrumentation and control systems, including equipment history, maintenance practices, and system performance.
- Identify and evaluate known failure modes, failure causes, and equipment degradation mechanisms.
- Review and provide recommendations on recurring or repetitive break-in work to identify opportunities for permanent corrective actions.
- Evaluate existing trip test, calibration, inspection, and functional testing frequencies and procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
- Support the development and optimization of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance strategies.
- Assist in defining maintenance tasks and intervals to reduce equipment failure probability and mitigate operational consequences.
- Identify maintenance constraints,
resource requirements, and execution challenges associated with maintenance activities.
- Provide estimates for maintenance task durations, manpower requirements, and execution planning.
- Support troubleshooting efforts for complex instrumentation and control system issues.
- Provide input into maintenance and shutdown planning, including equipment preparation, system entry requirements, repair execution, and return-to-service activities.
- Support reliability reviews, root cause investigations, failure analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in equipment criticality assessments and maintenance strategy reviews.
- Ensure all work activities are performed in accordance with site safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company maintenance procedures.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician certification.
- Extensive experience with industrial instrumentation, process control systems, and maintenance execution.
- Strong understanding of DCS, PLC, SIS, analyzers, transmitters, control valves, and field instrumentation.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and maintenance strategy development.
- Solid knowledge of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and Maintenance teams.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting Utilities or extraction instruments
- Experience participating in maintenance strategy reviews, RCM studies, criticality assessments, or reliability improvement programs.
- Familiarity with SAP
