Laser Cutting Machine Operator

Full-Time | Afternoon or Night Shift

Position Overview

JL Metals is seeking an experienced and dependable Laser Cutting Machine Operator to join our manufacturing team on either the afternoon or night shift.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating CNC laser cutting equipment safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards for quality, productivity, and material utilization. This position requires someone who is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently in a rapid-paced steel fabrication environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Operate CNC laser cutting equipment safely and efficiently.

· Load and unload steel sheets and plates using appropriate material-handling equipment.

· Set up and prepare the laser for scheduled production jobs.

· Review work orders, drawings, cut files, and production requirements before starting jobs.

· Verify material type, thickness, quantity, and job requirements.

· Perform first-piece inspections and confirm parts meet drawing specifications.

· Use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to verify finished parts.

· Monitor cutting quality throughout production and make machine adjustments when required.

· Identify and report issues with cut quality, material, equipment, or programming.

· Remove completed parts and properly identify and organize finished material.

· Accurately record production quantities, scrap, downtime, and other required information.

· Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance.

· Maintain an organized and clean work area.

· Work closely with production, nesting/programming, material handling, and supervision to keep jobs moving efficiently.

· Follow all company safety procedures and proper material-handling practices.

· Assist with other production duties as required.

Qualifications





· Previous experience operating CNC laser cutting equipment is strongly preferred.

· Experience in a steel fabrication or metal manufacturing environment is preferred.

· Ability to read and understand shop drawings and work orders.

· Comfortable working with measurements, decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.

· Experience using precision measuring tools.

· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.

· Forklift and/or overhead crane experience is an asset.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.

· Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

· Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.

· Able to safely lift and handle materials as required.

· Willingness to work a permanent afternoon or night shift.

Compensation

Competitive hourly wage based on laser operating experience, manufacturing experience, and overall qualifications.

Shift premium available for afternoon/night shift.
