EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY VICTIM SERVICES COUNSELLOR FIRST NATIONS SERVICES CAVAC DE L'OUTAOUAIS (MANIWAKI) Reporting to the Executive Director, the Victim Services counsellor provides support and intervention services to victims of criminal offences, their loved ones, and witnesses of crime. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic and professional team committed to meeting the needs of victims of crime while fostering team-oriented relationships with First Nations communities and local partners. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES • Welcome, inform, and provide intervention services to victims of crime, their loved ones, and witnesses of criminal offences. • Assess clients' needs and provide post-traumatic and psychosocial interventions. • Provide information regarding victims' rights and available legal remedies, and offer the required technical assistance. • Explain the criminal justice process and deliver witness preparation programs. • Accompany victims throughout judicial proceedings, including court appearances. • Ensure accurate record keeping and statistical reporting. • Perform any other related duties in line with the organization's mandate. • Meet with partners from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and Lac-Barrière communities to strengthen and develop collaborative processes. COLLABORATION The successful candidate will work closely with: • Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DCPP); • Police services; • Organizations within the health and social services network; • Community organizations throughout the region. • Excellent command of spoken and written French and good command of English in order to serve English-speaking clients. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS • University degree in Social Work, Criminology, Psychoeducation, Sexology, Psychology, or another field considered relevant to the position. • Membership in a professional order or inclusion in a recognized acquired-rights registry, where applicable. • Relevant training or experience in intervention services, particularly with victims of domestic violence or sexual violence. • Knowledge of victimology, judicial procedures, and community resources. • Excellent judgment and strong clinical assessment and analytical skills. • Excellent command of spoken and written French and good spoken English. • Criminal record check satisfactory to the requirements of the position. ASSETS • Lived experience and understanding of the realities of First Nations communities, particularly Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg and Lac-Barrière, is considered a significant asset. • Knowledge of the Algonquin language is considered an important asset. • Valid driver's licence. • Professional experience in victim services or related intervention settings. • Good knowledge of the justice system. • Membership in a professional order will be considered an asset.
