Position Summary

Our client is seeking highly skilled Linux Desktop Engineers to design, build, and support enterprise Linux computing platforms and reliable development environments. The roles will support active endpoint pilot work, developer productivity, and high-performance engineering workstations across globally distributed teams.

The successful candidates will provide hands-on engineering across Ubuntu desktop standards, endpoint management, security tooling, application packaging, automation, GPUs, containers, virtualization, and complex hardware-software troubleshooting.

Work Location & Staffing Requirement

- Canada: One position supporting the Toronto-based environment under a hybrid work model.
- Candidates must be able to collaborate effectively with globally distributed engineering, infrastructure, security, and DevOps teams.

Priority Technical Requirements The following capabilities are essential for these openings:

- Ubuntu engineering: Expert Ubuntu 24.04 desktop engineering across Dell, HP, and Lenovo high-performance workstations.
- Endpoint management and security: Hands-on HCL BigFix packaging, patching, and automated deployment of Zscaler, CrowdStrike, and ThreatLocker.
- Developer workstation support: Experience supporting GPUs, AI runtimes, Docker, virtualization, and complex developer hardware-software troubleshooting.
- Core skill level: Advanced Linux, Advanced DevOps, and Advanced Networking.

Core Responsibilities

1. Linux Desktop Engineering & Lifecycle Management

- Design, build, deploy, and support enterprise Ubuntu 24.04 desktop environments.
- Define and maintain Linux desktop images, configuration baselines, patching standards, and operating system hardening controls.
- Support Dell, HP, and Lenovo high-performance engineering workstations throughout the endpoint lifecycle.
- Manage provisioning, upgrades, patching,



configuration changes, performance optimization, and retirement activities.

2. Endpoint Packaging, Security & Automation

- Package, test, deploy, and maintain applications using HCL BigFix.
- Automate the deployment and maintenance of Zscaler, CrowdStrike, ThreatLocker, and other standard endpoint applications.
- Develop automated deployment, remediation, and compliance workflows using Bash, Python, or comparable scripting tools.
- Support endpoint pilot activities, vulnerability remediation, and production rollout readiness.

3. Developer Workstation Enablement

- Enable and support Linux-based development workflows using Docker, containerization, and virtualization technologies.
- Support GPU-enabled workstations and AI runtime environments used for engineering and development workloads.
- Troubleshoot complex operating system, driver, firmware, hardware, networking, dependency, and development-toolchain issues.
- Create repeatable Day-1 provisioning and onboarding procedures for developer workstations.

4. Operational Support & Collaboration

- Act as an escalation point for complex Linux desktop and engineering-workstation incidents.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, networking, DevOps, and engineering teams to resolve environment blockers.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement durable remediation for recurring endpoint issues.
- Maintain accurate build, packaging, deployment, support, and troubleshooting documentation.

Technical Qualifications





Required Experience

- Demonstrated enterprise Linux desktop engineering experience, with robust hands-on Ubuntu administration.
- Direct experience supporting Linux developer workstations and high-performance endpoint hardware.
- Hands-on experience with HCL BigFix administration, software packaging, automated deployment, and patch management.
- Experience deploying or supporting Zscaler, CrowdStrike, and ThreatLocker in managed endpoint environments.
- Strong Docker, containerization, virtualization, GPU, and developer-toolchain support experience.
- Automation and scripting experience using Bash and Python.
- Advanced networking knowledge, including troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, VPN, proxy, routing, firewall, and endpoint-connectivity issues.

Preferred Experience

- Experience supporting AI or machine-learning development environments and associated runtimes.
- Familiarity with Dell, HP, and Lenovo workstation platforms, with HP hardware familiarity considered an advantage.
- Experience supporting globally distributed engineering teams in a large enterprise environment.
- Exposure to DevOps platforms, CI/CD processes, and developer-productivity tooling.
