Job Overview
Dynaflex Pipe Ltd. is looking for a reliable, safety-minded Material Handler to join our manufacturing team in Nisku, Alberta.
The primary focus of this position is handling materials, processing scrap HDPE, organizing storage areas and supporting the movement of materials and finished products throughout the plant and yard.
The Material Handler will be assigned to a rotating production shift. While material handling will remain the primary responsibility, the position may occasionally assist with packaging and other production activities when additional support is required.
Previous pipe-manufacturing experience is not required. We are looking for someone who is dependable, comfortable operating equipment and willing to learn. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate industrial shredders and grinders to process scrap HDPE material.
- Sort and prepare scrap material according to plant procedures.
- Keep scrap materials properly separated and maintain an organized grinding area.
- Move raw materials, scrap, packaging supplies and finished products throughout the plant and yard.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment once properly trained and authorized.
- Stage materials and finished products in designated storage or shipping areas.
- Support loading and unloading activities as required.
- Receive finished coiled pipe from production and secure it using approved strapping, banding or wrapping methods.
- Ensure finished products are properly labelled, protected and staged for storage or shipment.
- Repackage finished products when required, including consolidating partially filled crates or rebuilding pipe packages.
- Organize production materials, packaging supplies and finished goods to maintain safe and efficient workflow.
- Monitor scrap and packaging supplies and report when additional materials are required.
- Maintain clean and organized grinding, storage, production-support and outdoor work areas.
- Complete required material-handling, scrap and packaging records accurately.
- Inspect equipment and work areas and promptly report damage, mechanical problems or safety concerns.
- Support waste-reduction and general housekeeping initiatives.
- Assist with special projects and other related material-handling duties as assigned.
Production Support
When operational needs require additional help, the Material Handler may:
- Assist production employees with packaging finished pipe.
- Perform basic visual inspections or measurements after receiving appropriate training.
- Assist with line setups, product changeovers, scrap removal or other general production-support activities.
Qualifications
- Previous material handling, manufacturing, warehouse, construction or other hands-on experience is an asset but not required.
- Forklift experience or certification is strongly preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working around industrial equipment.
- Comfortable using common hand and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow basic measurements or work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize damaged materials, equipment concerns or unsafe conditions.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willing to learn new equipment, processes and responsibilities.
- Available to work rotating shifts, including days, nights and weekends.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Physical and Work Requirements
- Comfortable working in an active indoor and outdoor industrial environment.
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Able to safely lift, carry, push and pull materials as required.
- Comfortable performing repetitive, hands-on tasks.
- Able to work around grinders, production equipment, power tools and mobile equipment.
- Must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
