About Pacific Tutorials

At Pacific Tutorials, we believe solid mathematics learning is about more than memorizing formulas and following procedures. Students need to understand why a method works, how mathematical ideas connect, and how to approach unfamiliar problems independently.

Our tutoring is primarily one-on-one and personalized. We work with passion, preparation, and purpose, and we expect our tutors to bring the same commitment to every student they teach.

We are looking for a passionate High School Math Tutor to support students studying OSSD, IB, and AP Mathematics across Canada and the United States.

The Tutor We Are Looking For

We are not simply looking for someone good at Math. We are looking for someone who can teach it well.

At Pacific Tutorials, an excellent Math tutor:

- Builds conceptual understanding before formula memorization.
- Encourages students to explain how and why they reached an answer.
- Identifies foundational gaps that may be affecting higher-level mathematics.
- Breaks complex problems into understandable steps without doing the thinking for the student.
- Uses graphs, diagrams, patterns, examples, and multiple approaches to make abstract concepts understandable.
- Develops mathematical reasoning and problem-solving alongside procedural fluency.
- Adapts explanations and difficulty levels to the individual student.
- Comes prepared and takes ownership of the quality of each session.
- Helps students become increasingly confident and independent problem-solvers.

We want students to move from “Which formula should I use?” to “I understand the problem and know how to approach it.”

What You’ll Do

- Provide personalized one-on-one online Math tutoring to high-school students in Canada and the United States.
- Support students following OSSD, IB, and AP Mathematics curricula.
- Teach concepts across algebra, functions, advanced functions, trigonometry,

geometry, calculus, vectors, probability, statistics, and other curriculum-specific topics within your areas of expertise.
- Strengthen foundational skills while developing higher-level mathematical reasoning.
- Guide students through multi-step, application-based, and unfamiliar problems.
- Identify learning gaps and adapt instruction to each student's needs and academic goals.
- Support coursework, assessments, test preparation, and examination readiness.
- Prepare appropriately for sessions and track relevant student progress.
- Maintain professional, reliable, and consistent communication.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from university students, graduates, educators, and professionals with a strong background in Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.

- Currently pursuing or having completed post-secondary studies in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, Education, or another closely related field.
- Strong command of high-school Mathematics within the courses you intend to tutor.
- Familiarity with OSSD, IB, and/or AP Mathematics; experience studying, teaching, or tutoring these curricula is an asset.
- Robust mathematical reasoning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to explain challenging concepts clearly and in multiple ways when necessary.
- Ability to recognize and address foundational gaps rather than focusing only on the immediate question.

- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
- Reliable, organized, prepared, and comfortable teaching online.
- Genuine interest in teaching and helping students grow.

Previous tutoring or teaching experience is an asset, but it is not mandatory. Strong subject knowledge, communication skills, preparation, and the ability to teach effectively matter more to us than years of experience.

Why Join Pacific Tutorials?

- Work in a personalized, one-on-one environment.
- Enjoy remote work with scheduling based on tutor and student availability.
- Work with students across different high-school Mathematics pathways and curricula.
- Develop your teaching and communication skills.
- Join an organization that values thoughtful instruction, academic quality, preparation, and meaningful student progress.
