We need a Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD)Technician to join our MDRD team! - At this time this opportunity is scheduled 8-hour shifts.
As The Successful Applicant, You Will Do The Following
- Perform all MDR activities as a core team member and independently without supervision on weekends and after hours.
- Safe transport and delivery of contaminated equipment and instruments to SPD (MDRD) from the OR, patient units, and clinics several times a day
- Reprocess flexible scopes in a designated decontamination workroom in the Endoscopy Suite
- Follow universal precautions; proper PPE must be worn
- Follow manufactures instructions and recommendations for equipment, instruments, and products
- Safe handling of contaminated equipment and instruments in the Decontamination Room.
All items are disassembled to their smallest components and cleaned manually. Instruments are sorted and loaded into the appropriate machines for disinfecting (washer/ disinfector, Ultrasonic, Pasteurmatic).
- Inspect all clean and disinfected instruments and equipment for cleanliness and wear. Instruments must be reassembled and tested to ensure they are in working order e.g. laparoscopic instruments.
- Organize instruments and equipment in appropriate method (containers, wrap, peel packing), and labeled with proper information
- Operate reprocessing machines in MDR and Endoscopy in recommended manner: Steris and Medivator, Pasteurmatic, Ultrasonic, washer/disinfector, biological incubators, autoclaves, laparoscopic instrument tester,etc.
- Perform biological indicator tests daily on autoclaves and on any implant or set containing an implant, following Canadian Standards and PIDAC, record results, and be able to activate a recall system.
- Trouble-shoot minor problems with machines
- Documentation of patient information into Medivator: inclusive of patient ID number, scope used on patient, patient’s doctor, and person who processed the scope for purpose of legal accountability.
- Deliver pathology specimens and appropriate paperwork to lab. Make copies of paperwork and deliver to medical records and Endoscopy Suite.
- Daily department cleaning: carts, counters, sinks, shelves, etc.
- Daily inspect, clean, fill solutions, run diagnostics on all machines.
- Perform biological indicator tests daily following Canadian Standards and PIDAC, record results, and be able to activate a recall system.
- Check humidity levels in sterile storage areas
- Answer the phone and respond to enquiries regarding sterile supplies, procedures, etc.
- Prepare labour and delivery carts for the OBS Unit, chest tube trays for ER, ICU & OR.
- Transport and deliver sterile supplies to all clinical areas in hospital
- Store sterile supplies according to CSA standards – rotating of stock, etc.
- Assist in OR with instrumentation storage as required
