True Plastic Surgery is a physician-owned plastic surgery practice dedicated to providing exceptional patient care throughout the surgical journey. We are seeking a qualified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRD Technician) to support the safe and efficient operation of our surgical facility.

The MDRD Technician will be responsible for the cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation. The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other clinical team members to ensure that surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are appropriately reprocessed and available for use in accordance with established infection prevention, quality assurance, and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

Medical Device Reprocessing

- Perform all stages of medical device reprocessing, including receiving, cleaning, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable medical devices and surgical instrumentation.
- Operate medical device reprocessing equipment, including ultrasonic cleaners and steam sterilizers, in accordance with manufacturer instructions, established policies, and facility protocols.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, integrity, function, and damage, and identify and remove damaged or malfunctioning equipment from service as appropriate.
- Assemble and prepare surgical instrument sets and supplies according to established procedures and surgical requirements.
- Perform and document required testing, monitoring, and quality control of reprocessing and sterilization equipment, including appropriate chemical, biological, and mechanical monitoring.
- Maintain accurate MDRD logs, sterilization and quality assurance records, and instrument traceability documentation.
- Ensure appropriate handling, storage, rotation, and monitoring of sterile supplies and instrumentation, including management of expired or outdated supplies.
- Maintain appropriate separation and workflow between contaminated, clean, and sterile areas.

Operating Room & Clinical Support





- Prepare surgical instrument sets and supplies according to the operating room schedule and ensure required instrumentation is appropriately processed and available for scheduled procedures.
- Work collaboratively with nursing and surgical staff to support efficient operating room and instrumentation turnover.
- Monitor instrument, sterile supply, and reprocessing supply levels and assist with inventory management and ordering as required.
- Assist with cleaning, turnover, organization, and stocking of clinical and perioperative areas as required.
- Perform other related duties within the scope of the role as required.

Infection Prevention, Quality & Safety

- Consistently apply infection prevention and control principles and follow applicable standards, facility policies, and manufacturer instructions throughout all stages of medical device reprocessing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe MDRD environment.
- Identify and promptly report sterilization failures, process deviations, equipment malfunctions, or other quality and safety concerns.
- Participate in quality improvement, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives.

Team Collaboration

- Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and administrative team members.
- Communicate effectively regarding instrument availability, reprocessing timelines, equipment concerns, and supply needs.
- Organize and prioritize workflow according to surgical schedules and clinical requirements.
- Contribute to a positive, professional, organized, and patient-centered workplace environment.

Qualifications

- Successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT/MDRD) certificate program is required.
- Previous experience in medical device reprocessing, sterile processing, or a surgical environment is preferred; experience with surgical instrumentation is strongly preferred.
- CMDRT certification is considered an asset.
- Experience operating medical device reprocessing equipment,



including ultrasonic cleaners and steam sterilizers, is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical device reprocessing principles, including cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, infection prevention and control, and appropriate handling and storage of sterile supplies.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize workflow in a time-sensitive surgical environment.
- Good judgment and ability to identify and appropriately escalate instrument, equipment, or reprocessing concerns.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Adaptable and adaptable, with availability to work weekday hours based on the surgical schedule.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including prolonged standing, repetitive tasks, and lifting and handling surgical instrument trays and supplies.
