Company Description Benzene Analytical Laboratory Inc. is an analytical testing laboratory based in Scarborough, Ontario, providing laboratory testing services for cannabis, natural health products (NHPs), pharmaceuticals, and other regulated products. Our laboratory focuses on reliable, accurate, and timely analytical and microbiological testing while maintaining solid standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

We are a growing laboratory and are building a skilled team of professionals committed to delivering dependable analytical results and excellent service to our clients.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Microbiologist role located in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. The Microbiologist will perform routine and specialized microbiological testing on cannabis, NHPs, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceutical samples in accordance with validated methods and regulatory guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include preparing samples and media, operating and maintaining microbiological and analytical laboratory equipment, documenting results, and interpreting data to support product quality and safety.

The role involves adhering to quality-control and quality-assurance procedures, participating in method development and validation, and assisting in troubleshooting laboratory issues. The Microbiologist will collaborate with other laboratory team members to ensure timely reporting, accurate data, and continuous improvement of laboratory practices.





Qualifications

- Strong Microbiology knowledge and experience applying microbiological techniques in a regulated laboratory environment.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory experience for candidates with a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant laboratory experience for candidates with a Master’s degree.
- Proficiency in Laboratory Skills, including sample preparation, media preparation, aseptic technique, and method execution.
- Hands-on experience with Laboratory Equipment used in microbiological and analytical testing, with the ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated Quality Control skills, including adherence to SOPs, accurate data recording, and participation in internal checks or audits.
- Understanding of Quality Assurance principles, including compliance with GLP/GMP or ISO standards and support of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Relevant post-secondary education in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Experience in testing cannabis, NHPs, nutraceuticals, or pharmaceutical products is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to work safely in an on-site laboratory setting.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
