Crosslinx Transit Solutions Maintenance (CTSM) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backbone Communication Network (BCN) Administrator to join our transit project team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of our communication network infrastructure. This encompasses the deployment, operation, and maintenance of Wide Area Network (WAN) backbone that interconnects all project assets.
You will ensure the highest levels of network availability, performance, and security for essential operational systems including CCTV, SCADA, Integrated Audio/Communications (IAC), and Passenger Information Displays (GIDS).
This role requires a blend of hands-on network administration skills and the strategic foresight to architect and scale the network's core infrastructure to support a growing transit system.
Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain all network switches, routers, and firewalls
- Provide day-to-day operational support, diagnosing and resolving network issues at the local level to minimize downtime; act as technical point of contact for network performance issues
- Manage network access, VLANs, and security policies for staff and local devices; ensure seamless integration of local servers and applications
- Perform regular maintenance, including firmware updates, security patching, and hardware lifecycle management for all site-level equipment
- Oversee integration of all communication subsystems onto the backbone, including aggregating CCTV feeds, consolidating SCADA telemetry, and distributing IAC and passenger information data
- Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including configuration records, interface control documents, and network diagrams
- Support testing and commissioning of new systems and network components for a smooth transition from construction to maintenance
- Ensure all network changes are managed through a formal change control process to mitigate risks
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 3-5 years of progressive experience in network administration and engineering
- Proven experience with IP-MPLS solutions, LAN/WAN design, and Gigabit Ethernet network deployment
- Experience in a rail, transit, or critical infrastructure environment is highly desirable
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and network services (DHCP, DNS)
- Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise and carrier-grade networking hardware from vendors like Cisco or Juniper
- Strong knowledge of network security principles, including firewall administration, 802.1x, RADIUS, and ACLs
- Familiarity with fiber optic technology and DWDM is highly desirable
- Experience with network monitoring, traffic analysis, and management tools
- CCNP/CCIE or JNCIP (or equivalent) preferred
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with diverse teams, contractors, and vendors
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure
The salary for this position ranges from $90K to $110K per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
