Applications are invited for the position of Nursing Lab Technologist in the Myhal School of Nursing, located at the Welland Campus. The starting hourly rate is $40.39/hr (Pay Band I - $40.39/hr to $46.64/hr) for a 35-hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.
This is an Appendix D, temporary position as per Article 17.3.1 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to commence in August 2026 and will conclude in August 2027. It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Nursing & PSW, the successful candidate will ensure the effective organization, maintenance, and operation of the nursing labs to support activities related to the nursing programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate clinical skills, facilitate student learning, supervise practical lab activities, and provide formative and summative feedback to students under the direction of the course professor.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Liaise with course professors regarding student progress, as well as the currency and appropriateness of course content
- Explain and demonstrate prescribed skills previously taught by faculty in a formal academic setting, providing coaching and guidance as required
- Assist with the assignment of grades related to student lab performance
- Facilitate student learning through simulation activities
- Set up required supplies and equipment for scheduled student learning activities
- Conduct regular maintenance checks of equipment and report items requiring repair or replacement
- Maintain accurate written inventories of equipment, supplies, and consumable items, and order replacements as required
- Organize, assemble, dispense, retrieve, inspect, sterilize, and prepare supplies and equipment for nursing skills lab classes
- Monitor security, safety, and housekeeping practices and protocols within the nursing skills lab, and report any infractions
- Liaise with sales representatives and source required equipment and supplies
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Science (BScN) degree in Nursing
- Three (3) years’ of recent nursing practice experience in an acute care setting requiring current knowledge and skill related to nursing procedures
- Current registration in good standing with the CNO as a Registered Nurse
- A working knowledge of the CNO’s Practice Standards, Practice Guidelines, and Entry-to-Practice Competencies for RPNs and RNs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience mentoring or teaching in a clinical setting is preferred
