Salary:

$50.07 - $56.75/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.

Sessional faculty have the opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan, with additional contributions made by the Employer.

Description:

NLC requires a sessional instructor to teach one offering of ENGL 099 – University Preparation. This contract will be a total of 96 hours, and will be delivered online synchronous on Tu/Th, 2:45 - 4:10pm.

The English 099 - University Preparation course prepares students for university-level success by exploring many of the practices and concepts associated with North American university culture. Students will examine individual responsibilities in an academic environment, the shared construction of knowledge, and the fundamental aspects of clear and appropriate written communication in academic settings. Topics may include structuring of a list of sources, (bibliography), and summarizing and criticizing academic articles.

Emphasis is placed on the fundamental components of transparent written communication, including source documentation, basic research skills, essay structure, organization of ideas, diction, grammar, and punctuation.

**Class instruction will begin on September 10, 2026 (start date will allow for prep prior to the first class).

Qualifications:

Required:





- Master's Degree in Communications, Linguistics, or a closely related discipline.
- Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to engaging diverse learners through various forms of delivery
- Ability to function effectively as a team member through a collaborative approach.

Preferred:

- PhD in aclosely related discipline.
- TESOL certificate an asset
- One North American post-secondary degree, preferably the terminal degree.
- The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program, or an equivalent credential in adult education.
- Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
- Experience utilizing Learning management systems such as D2L and other forms of technology to assist in course delivery is considered an asset.
