PURPOSE OF POSITION Due to a vacancy, the Municipality of Grey Highlands is pleased to invite applications for the position of Casual Seasonal Parks and Recreation Attendant. Reporting to the Team Leader of Parks and Recreation or their designate, as part of the Community Services Department, the successful candidate will perform duties in various Parks and Recreation Facilities in accordance with departmental and corporate work plans and priorities, including but not limited to the following:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintaining the ice surface, operating ice resurfacing machinery (training will be provided) will be a major component of this position.
- Acting as a front-line contact for the public (explaining rules, providing direction, answering questions, etc.).
- Performing general operational and administrative duties (opens and closes, set up and take down for functions/special events and rentals, keeps all records and daily logs, etc.).
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to hallways, vestibules, stairways, entrances (inside and outside), lobby area, dressing/change rooms, washrooms and shower units.
- Ensuring the ice surface, and machinery/tools used to maintain the surface, are in good quality condition, including monitoring refrigeration equipment (recording temperatures, pressures, and water chemical levels, changing ice resurfacing blade and propane tanks).
- Taking reasonable precautions and actions to mitigate risks to users and ensure a safe environment for staff and the public.
- Working safely within the law and safe work practices/procedures (understanding and following standard operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, using MSDS information, ensuring all guards are in place)
- Immediately reporting unsafe acts, conditions, or contraventions of the OHSA to a supervisor, the JHSC, or a Health & Safety representative.
- Report and record maintenance needs or repairs to team leader or manager. Assist with the maintenance as required Performing other duties as assigned in accordance with corporate objectives.
Develops and maintains good working relationships with Council, staff and the public which includes:
- Complying with all office procedures
- Attending meetings as required
- Participating in resolution of delivery service issues
- Communicating ideas, suggestions, and procedural changes which may assist the organization
- Assisting where and when needed during staff shortages and/or emergency situations
- Responding to public enquiries in a timely manner
Responsible, as an employee, for health & safety under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). This includes, but is not limited to:
- Working safely within the law and safe work practices/procedures (understanding and following standard operating procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, using MSDS information, ensuring all guards are in place, when applicable)
- Immediately reporting unsafe acts, conditions, or contraventions of the OHSA to a supervisor, the JHSC, or a Health & Safety representative.
- Maintaining a clean, orderly work area and avoiding any unsafe or disruptive behavior in the workplace.
- Completing all assigned health and safety training and taking the health and safety of themselves and others seriously by following workplace safety policies, procedures, and instructions.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer service role.
- Basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills
- Valid G Driver’s License.
Work Requires:
- A working understanding of all applicable legislation, by-laws, and policies related to recreational operations and hazardous waste,
chemicals and materials.
- Working knowledge of the skilled operation of similar heavy equipment and machinery and ability to make minor adjustments and repairs on equipment used
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment and initiative when dealing with coworkers, supervisors and the public.
- Ability to provide timely and courteous customer service.
- Good judgment and initiative and the ability to follow directions.
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work occurs in recreational facility with a high degree of public contact. There is a substantial amount of heavy lifting and carrying in wet and/or humid conditions. A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of self and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, tools and hazardous chemicals is required. Availability on weekends, evening and daytime shifts is required.
