Payroll Technician

Location: Dorval, QC, Canada

Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary The Payroll Technician is responsible for supporting accurate and timely payroll processing for Canadian and U.S. employees. This role will manage payroll data, maintain employee payroll records, support payroll compliance, respond to employee inquiries, and assist with payroll accounting and reconciliation activities.

The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable working with confidential employee information in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Process the full payroll cycle for Canadian and U.S. semi-monthly payrolls accurately and on time.
- Process earnings, deductions, adjustments, bonuses, reimbursements, taxable benefits, and other payroll-related entries.
- Review and validate payroll inputs, source documents, and employee changes for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate approvals.
- Maintain and process payroll changes including direct deposits, tax forms, garnishments, benefit deductions, compensation updates, and employment status changes.
- Coordinate with external payroll providers during international payroll processing, including providing employee changes, leave calculations, payroll calendars, and required supporting documentation.
- Assist with expatriate and cross-border payroll administration, including travel calendars, shadow payroll inputs, tax adjustments, and year-end payroll adjustments.
- Partner with Human Resources to resolve payroll data issues, missing approvals, timekeeping discrepancies, and employee record updates.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies, audit requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries regarding pay statements, deductions, direct deposits, tax withholding, benefits, and payment timing.




- Escalate complex payroll matters to appropriate HR, Payroll, or Accounting leadership.
- Support payroll compliance activities, including payroll audits, variance reviews, year-end validation, and payroll-related reporting.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll accounting activities, including journal entries, bonus accruals, payroll reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Process and review HR, payroll, and benefits-related invoices, including coding, approval follow-up, and payment requests.
- Support payroll audits by gathering, organizing, and validating payroll records, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with documenting payroll procedures, checklists, and process improvements to improve consistency and accuracy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee payroll information and other sensitive records.
- Perform other payroll, HR, and accounting-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- 2–3 years of payroll experience, including payroll data entry and reporting.
- Experience supporting Canadian and/or U.S. payroll.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and management at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively within a team environment.




- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Functional knowledge of payroll software is required; Dayforce experience is preferred.
- Experience with international payroll is a plus.
- Canadian or U.S. Payroll Association certification is preferred.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent education and/or relevant professional experience may be considered.

Language Requirements
- Fluency in French and advanced written and spoken English are required.
- English is required to regularly communicate with employees, managers, payroll providers, auditors, and other business partners located outside Québec, including the United States, English-speaking Canada, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Work Workplace
- General office environment.
- Primarily desk-based work with regular computer use.
- May require occasional travel, up to approximately 5% annually, based on business needs.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain seated and work at a desk for extended periods.
- Frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment.
- Ability to access file cabinets and office machinery as needed.
- Occasional lifting of boxes or materials weighing up to approximately 10 lbs.
