Non-Union Position - Facilities Operations Manager
Home Base: South Grenville District High School. Travel throughout the Board is a requirement of this position.
$92,929.00 - $120,801.00, commensurate with experience

JOB SUMMARY:
The Facilities Operations Manager is responsible for the delivery of high quality custodial and maintenance services through the management and supervision of Facilities staff at approximately 100 physical sites.
Responsibilities include effectively managing custodial and maintenance operations and expenditures, providing leadership, organizing and implementing renovations and improvements to facilities.
Responsibilities also include organizing, planning and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures for approximately 300 employees, in addition to tracking and monitoring energy utilization, greening, waste management and hazardous waste initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
2 -3-year Specialized Community College. Minimum of 3 year Building Environmental Systems and/or equivalent. A minimum of 5-6 years of experience.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Specific knowledge of:
- A variety of building related systems (e.g. heating, ventilation, air conditioning, heat recovery units, heat pumps, boilers, chillers, computerized energy management systems,
building System automations, and water treatment)
- Building codes, fire codes, regulation and various ministry guidelines
- Processes and procedures related to building management
Competencies:
- Ability to coordinate a range of related work or project activities (e.g. summer cleaning)
- Ability to design new programs for the organization (e.g. implement greening initiative of cleaning projects)
- Ability to manage a team of employees
BRIEF LIST OF DUTIES:
- Provide daily support to custodial and maintenance staff to ensure a safe, clean, warm, dry and fit facility
- Lead and manage staff
- Participate in Board initiatives
- Monitor staff attendance, timesheets, shift premium, and lieu time banking and monitoring
- Create and maintain procedural documents, confidential reports, and maintain efficient operations of the department
- Implement training and procedures for safe job performances

- Facility inspections and testing
- Project work and renovations (e.g. flooring, painting)
- May be required to provide guidance, direction, project team leadership, performance management, task delegation, recruitment, organization and coordination of others, act as a technical mentor and put to use the multiple skills of others under changing circumstances
- Works in an open office environment (e.g. typical office setting). At times, due to 24 hour on-call schedule, is required to deal with issues and facility concerns at various times of day and night
- Frequently exposed to a variety of facilities with potential issues related to heat, cold and noise. Occasionally, exposed to limited ventilation and vibrations.Infrequently exposed to moisture and poor air quality
- Physical effort may include fine finger/ precision work at the computer and sitting for extended periods of time. May occasionally be required to use hand tools, gross motor skills, bend (e.g. examining crawl spaces), use equipment requiring rapid physical movements and move objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds (e.g. moving equipment between facilities)
- Visual concentration may include proofreading materials.Auditory concentration is required to listen to facilities equipment and listen to employee and colleague requests.
- Tasks are at times routine (e.g. typical inspections) and at times unique (e.g. devising new draining system for a unique facility) in nature.A typical problem involves the request for service at 4AM when no employees are available to assist.
- Problems tend to require reference to colleagues, health and safety officer, HR, policy and procedures, manuals, ministry guidelines, fire and building codes and past experience
- Travel between work sites is required
Selection Process:
