About the position
As a Plant Pathologist the role requires critical thinking, creativity, independence and scientific rigor in order to design and implement equipment, assays, and experiments to meet the company’s objectives.
The Plant
Pathologist will contribute to the study of mode of action and mechanism of products within the company’s portfolio, discovery and development of recent products, development of assays to improve the efficacy of products, the creation of research reports to summarize findings and the presentation of research and data to various stakeholders to add value to the sales efforts of our team. This includes presenting findings at tradeshow, dealer meetings and directly to company personnel.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive research on plant diseases, pathogens, and their interactions with various crops (pulses, legumes, vegetables) in laboratory and field settings
- Creating and implementing a strategic plan of action and set goals / objectives you will be responsible to carry out in a 12-month time frame.
You will be responsible for the development of a thorough research program; including but not limited to conceiving appropriate biological research questions and hypothesis; identifying suitable equipment and technology, implementing
- Collect and analyze data related to disease incidence, severity, and environmental factors influencing plant health
- Develop and test innovative disease management solutions, including biological controls and resistant crop varieties
- Perform laboratory experiments involving pathogen identification, testing, and product development processes
- Maintain meticulous records of experiments, observations, and data analysis results for reporting purposes
- Work with the company president, sales team and customers to determine market demands, trends and the directions the company wishes to pursue regarding new product development / existing product enhancement
- Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Plant Pathology, Agricultural Science, Food Science, or a related field; PhD preferred
- Proven laboratory experience working with plant pathogens, disease diagnostics, or related microbiological techniques
- Experience with RNA extraction, cDNA, QPCR is required
- Excellent research skills with the ability to design experiments, interpret results, and troubleshoot issues effectively
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and lead a team of up to 3 research technicians
Must be Canadian PR resident or Canadian citizen
Pay: $80,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
