X Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Materials Management, the Porter provides transportation and material handling support services throughout the Hospital. The Porter is responsible for the secure and efficient movement of supplies, equipment, medications, documentation, and other materials to support patient care and hospital operations. Working as part of the Materials Management team, the Porter contributes to a safe, organized, and patient-centered environment in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

- Transports supplies, equipment, medications, specimens, documentation, and other materials throughout the Hospital in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
- Loads, unloads, moves, and distributes materials using manual handling techniques or basic material handling equipment, ensuring safe handling practices at all times.
- Performs material handling activities including counting, weighing, sorting, packing, and unpacking as required.
- Ensures deliveries and pickups are carried out in a quiet, professional, and orderly manner to minimize disruption to patients, visitors, and staff.
- Carries and responds to the Porter phone or communication device as required during assigned shifts.
- Follows established schedules, assignment details, and posted duties as directed by Materials Management leadership.
- Assists other Porters and Materials Management team members to ensure timely completion of departmental responsibilities.
- Adheres to infection prevention and control practices, workplace safety standards, and hospital emergency procedures.
- Demonstrates professional conduct and maintains confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies.
- Available to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager and/or designate.

Qualifications

Education

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent is required.

Experience

- A minimum of one (1) year experience in Materials Management or a similar setting is preferred.

Skills and Traits

- Must be able to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the role,



including standing and walking for extended periods, frequent and repetitive pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as safely operating equipment.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, as outlined in the Physical Demands Analysis (PDA).
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communication, with solid interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Provides excellent customer service and contributes positively to teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
- Effectively prioritizes workload, adapts to changing priorities, and remains composed in fast-paced or stressful environments.
