Machining Project Manager/Estimator — Must Have Prior Machinist Experience

We are seeking an experienced Machining Project Manager/Estimator to join our team at Barrie Welding & Machine, one of Ontario’s largest and most diverse custom jobbing shops.
This role is designed for a hands-on machining professional who also has a proven track record in project management, quoting & estimating, and customer service.
If you’ve worked on the shop floor, know machining processes inside out, and excel at managing projects from start to finish — we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage machining projects from “cradle to grave” — from quoting to final delivery.
- Estimate projects based on blueprints, site visits, sample parts, and customer consultation.
- Oversee project execution ensuring efficiency, quality, and budget control.
- Build and maintain customer relationships and generate new business opportunities.
- Collaborate with trades, designers, engineers, and shop staff to ensure project success.
- Recommend machining and fabrication methods tailored to each unique project.
- Support emergency repairs, rebuilds, breakdowns, and reverse engineering opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of machining project management experience.
- Prior hands-on machining experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of CNC and conventional machining processes.
- Ability to quote accurately and manage all phases of a project lifecycle.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team.
- Millwrighting and welding/fabrication experience is a definite asset.
- Basic knowledge of welding techniques is preferred.
